About this project
Footage from New York City
Hear what a first time user, Jeff Dheil has to say about the Hollywood.
Here is what a Kickstarter visitor has to say about the Hollywood.
What is the AeriCam Hollywood?
The Hollywood gimbal is a product that can bring the capabilities of a full scale hollywood production company to any photographer, videographer, or film maker. In its base configuration, the Hollywood is a hand-held camera gimbal that blows away traditional steadicams in both its performance, and portability. The Hollywood is not only unique in its design and construction, but also has a wide array of attachments. These attachments allow it to become a cable cam, car cam, aerial camera, boom camera, etc. Before the Hollywood gimbal these tools would only be available to large-scale production companies. This Kickstarter campaign will make it possible to put the AeriCam Hollywood into production, and make the development of new attachments and implementations possible.
What sets our gimbal apart from the rest:
The Hollywood is the gimbal with the most added value on the market. It has the heaviest payload capacity (15 lbs). This Preserves creative freedom by allowing user to put almost any camera, follow focus, and lens on it. Its attachments give it a wide range of applications ensuring you will capture more business with the added capabilities it brings. It is a solid piece of equipment and can be easily rented out.
Why use our stabilizer?
Brushless gimbal technology means, smooth, effort free images. Never again waste your time or image quality with post production stabilization. steadicams are big, bulky, and lack maneuverability. Brushless gimbals provide better stabilization in a lighter, more compact package. Many products on the market use cheap, poorly designed, or off the shelf parts. The Hollywood gimbal is designed, constructed, and tuned here in the USA - meaning you, the customer, get nothing but the best in quality and reliability.
While everyone loves the quality that camera stabilization platforms deliver, some find that they aren't practical for everyday shooting. The AeriCam Hollywood's long line of attachments aims at proving this train of thought wrong.
Suspension backpack -- Using a handheld camera system can be quite fatiguing, which makes long shoots difficult. With fatigue also comes added motion from straining to stabilize the system. Our suspension back pack not only relives the strain associated with carrying a camera system, making long shoots easy and comfortable, but it also aids the user in eliminating the frustrating vertical motions caused by walking.
Cable Cam -- Cable cameras are growing in popularity. They can provide amazing overhead, or following shots that would normally require an aerial vehicle (drone or full scale) in scenarios where they cannot operate. These systems are being used more and more frequently in places where safety is a concern like filming over crowds, or the environment is too small or tight for an aerial vehicle such as indoor venues.
Car mounted suspension system -- This is by far our most exciting mount. The car mount is an amazing option for videographers and film makers looking to capture silver-screen quality chase scenes for a fraction of the price. You can now operate your camera from the comfort of your passenger seat, framing the perfect car chase with ease!
Red Epic Ready Aerial Drone -- AeriCam has been designing and building drones for aerial photography for the past six years. This is our latest multi rotor - A folding octo-copter capable of carrying cameras like the Red Epic while maintaining industry leading stability, performance, and flight time.
The goal of our project:
Project Hollywood is our all in one solution for camera stabilization. We have an extensive background in aerial photography, and realized that much of the technology and expertise we honed for aerial work, was needed in the broader film industry. The Hollywood gimbal system is the product that will make the stabilized camera gimbal an everyday piece of equipment.
The Hollywood gimbal you see here today is the product of a year and a half of development. Our first design consisted of an aluminum circular tube construction. While fully functional we wanted to produce a product that was more reliable and professional looking. The downside to circular tube construction is that it is very hard to prevent the tubes from twisting and sliding regardless of clamping techniques.
For brushless camera gimbals to work reliably they require the camera and gimbal to be in perfect alignment. Any misalignment drastically reduces the stabilizing power of the motors. The result is a much less reliable system. Our solution to this problem was to use flat tubing and custom machined clamps. The flat tubes cannot twist resulting in a gimbal frame that is perfectly square at all angles. Our machined aluminum clamps also produce a frame that is a lot more rigid, making it capable of carrying heavier cameras.
We have developed several prototypes and we are very pleased with its current design. We are finally ready to have it produced. We have contracted a US based manufacturer that will machine our custom tube clamps. We believe that the customer always comes first at AeriCam, and want to have our product in your hands on a reliable yet realistic schedule. Here is our tentative project timeline.

The AeriCam Team
Founder, and owner of AeriCam. Jason has been designing and selling drones for the past six years. Starting as a professional fashion photographer in New York Jason has worked for clients such as Coca Cola and America's Top Model. As soon as he encountered RC helicopters, he realized that they would revolutionize photography. He founded AeriCam with the intention of being the industry leader in drone based aerial photography and camera equipment.
Technology and Aviation enthusiast. Frank’s passion for aerial photography began with video piloting of RC aircraft and quickly became an obsession with designing drones.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge we face with this project is maintaining a constant supply of parts and materials. There are many suppliers, but parts can go out of stock and prices may change. We mitigated this risk by creating a long list of alternative suppliers and manufacturers for our parts. As soon as funds are received production will begin. We are very excited to continue providing excellent service to our customers, and even more excited to see what you can create with the Hollywood. Thank you so much for supporting our project, and being a part of making the AeriCam dream a reality.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
