Over the next year I will document the gypsy lifestyle in New Zealand. I will immerse myself in the gypsy culture and introduce you to their close-knit community. Over the next 12 months, I plan to create a home for myself, from which I will travel across New Zealand, publishing weekly updates on various social media platforms.
When I was 12, I lost my mum to cancer. My life then changed dramatically. I moved away from my three brothers and New Zealand to live with my dad in Norway. Now I want to go back to my place of birth to find out who my mum was and why she lived the gypsy lifestyle.
This project has been a dream of mine for many years. Pursuing this dream is scary as hell, yet so exciting because I don’t know how it will turn out. There will be ups and downs that will make this journey an exiting one for both you and me. Stepping back into a culture I haven’t been a part of, since I lost my mum, is unnerving and I already feel a sense of vulnerability. As Brene Brown says “vulnerability is not a weakness” instead its an accurate measurement of courage, innovation, creativity and change.
Norway has been my home for eleven years and it is here I have studied a bachelor in culture and communication at Oslo University in Norway. Film and esthetics has been my specialization in this degree.
WHAT'S THE MONEY FOR?
After over a year of planning, I´m finally in the position to start filming. Well, there is just one thing missing; You! I need your help to fund the project and I´d be honoured if you joined me in bringing the Jola Josie journey together. Below is a breakdown of the budget showing what parts of the project the funding would be distributed to. I´m all about efficiency. This total is the smallest amount needed to make sure I tell my story to the best of my ability.
The total budget being four hundred thousands NOK. One hundred NOK is equivalent to seventeen New Zealand dollars and twelve US dollars. Of this figure I have saved up around 1/4 of the total budget. Meaning that I will proceed with this dream no matter what. Your contribution will not be deducted from your account until the end date of this crowdfunding. If I don't reach my goal, I get nothing and you will not be charged. I have therefor put a lower goal here on kickstarter even though my total budget is higher. Every little donation I receive will make the video blog entries and the documentary better quality, so I hope I reach this goal and far beyond this.
If you are not able to donate, there are other ways to help. You can also share this project through your social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other outlets. You can also sponsor me with equipment, examples being clothing, hiking gear, kitchen equipment, building materials, sun generator, film equipment and other essentials.
Thank you for taking time to read this and remember, every small donation helps!
Risks and challenges
I am traveling no matter how much support I receive. However, if I dont get much help, my travel journey may be shortened and the vehicle I will build may not be the best of quality. The more money the better quality the videos will be!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
