by Midway Drive In
To stay open, the Midway Drive-In will need to buy a digital projector at a total cost of over $125,000.00.
This project's funding goal was not reached on October 2, 2012.
Use this space to cheer the creator along, ask questions, and talk to your fellow backers. Please remember to be respectful and considerate. Thanks!
Thank you for pledging to our Midway Drive-In Theater digital fund. Our goal is to save and preserve the institution of the American Drive-In Theater and we cannot do that without your help.
We have not reached our Kickstarter funding goal. According to the Kickstarter policy, we will not receive any of the funds already pledged and the amount you pledged will not be charged to your account.
We are still dedicated to saving the Midway Drive-In by installing a digital system in the near future.
We will be launching a new campaign in early 2013. To receive updates, please visit our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Midway-Drive-In/145809152111810 and “like” us. Also sign up for our e-mail update list at www.themidwaydrivein.net .
Thank you again. We appreciate your support more than you know!
With your help, the Drive-In Theater will never die!

The Midway Drive-In
The first date I had ever been on was at a drive-in. I remember it with particular clarity because it was also the first time I ever kissed a girl. I have never been to Dixon, or even Illinois for that matter, but I do believe that drive-ins are a dieing tradition that need to be preserved, if for nothing but the fact that it holds so many dear memories for its once patrons.
Hey there. I'm a Catlow supporter and happy to contribute (I love old movies, miss drive-ins of my youth). But you need to have more rewards for backers who will never get to your town. A button, a hat, a bumper sticker, a cool doo-dad or even a specialized shout-out on your screen. I think it's important if you are looking for support nationally.
People lets get active on promoting this kickstarter TODAY!!!
Email your friends and family so we can continue to watch movies out under the stars - like god intended.
"THE DRIVE-IN WILL NEVER DIE!"
This weekend I tweeted the link to your Kickstarter directly at about 80 people and organizations/magazines/etc. in addition to posting on Facebook and Tumblr. Got a few retweets, hopefully it helps! Everyone needs to really push to help get this thing going!
I am in Gibson City, Illinois, and I donated because I know what you are going through. We are working hard here to save our small-town drive-in as well. I sincerely hope you reach your goal!!!
There aren't many drive-in theaters around to begin with, so even if you haven't been to this one, please consider donating on that fact. Even if it's $1 donation, it goes a long way. I have been to this theater to see Bruce Campbell and watch a marathon of his films, and it was awesome. It's a nice place to get together with other horror movie lovers. PLEASE help in any way that you can. I am posting anywhere I can to help spread the word. xoxo
I've been telling everyone I know of this cause. The Midway Drive-In--amazing theater and an amazing piece of the American landscape. As a film nerd and a Dixon/Sterlingite, I had to take some part in preserving this landmark and make a donation. All the best to Mike and Mia in this fundraising campaign. Long live the drive-in culture!
I put a plea for donations over at BoardGameGeek, and a couple of other gaming forums that are aware of KS for the many board and video games that they have. Hopefully some donations will come from these sources.
I placed a donation, as I know exactly what they are going through. I run a small Drive in theatre in downstate IL, The Harvest Moon Twin Drive In. We closely watch the news in the industry and the effects of the digital conversion are starting to hit hard. At the beginning of the year, only 380 or so Drive In's were still operating. As of this posting, 368 are still going and many are closing at the end of this month(at least 1/2 for good). Donate what you can, spread the word, contact the media, and let the world know about this american tragedy.
I haven't even been to the theater yet because it's a little bit of a haul, but there are too few drive-ins left and I have good memories of going to our local one when I was a kid. I'm backing in hopes that the only drive-in within driving distance doesn't shut down soon.
Originally from Rock Falls and living in St Louis now but the memory of the Midway Drive-In brought me back to help you guys out - you were there for my friends and families entertainment when we needed it - this is the least I could do.
Everybody: I have proudly donated $50 to this amazing cause (would give more if I could afford it, but I'm in college and am disabled on SSI)). As film studios are forcing first-run theatres to go digital by next Spring, 35 mm movie houses all over the country are literally fighting for their survival; hoping to raise enough money to purchase the necessary projection equipment. With less than 400 drive-in theatres remaining, America is in great danger of seeing even more of her historical landmarks demolished; it is estimated that this digital conversion will force half of these classic cinemas to close for good.
Even if you do not live anywhere near this theatre (I am in California), please consider giving all that you can. For it is vital, it is "crucial," that we preserve community landmarks. Especially ones such as this 1950's drive-in. A place that truly epitomizes the "Saturday night at the movies" feeling. A place that has seen generations of families grow up in front of, around the tradition of, the great American picture show.
Born out of the shadows of WWII; vets would often take their families here. He is proud to be a backer; won't you join us?
If anyone is on the fence about this, please consider helping save this amazing venue! If you can not donate, please spread the word about this Kickstarter campaign. I frequeunt the Midway, have been attending Flashback Weekend for years, and Mike and Mia are are great people fighting to keep a great venue alive.
If you haven't been to a drive-in theater, check one out (Midway if you're close enough), and you'll understand why this needs to be saved!
Even though I live in New Jersey, I want to help in my small way to save your Drive-In....We currently only have one active Drive-In in NJ, in Vineland so I know how important this cause is. I wish you the best of luck!
