The Corporations have a new form of entertainment for the masses - the battle room, where freelancers battle each other for credit bonuses and new technology. Features an interactive spectator mode where you can wager credits and sponsor competitors!

Work is always more fun with your friends! In addition to allowing you to invite and play with fellow freelancers, it will add contracts specifically designed for multiple players and special co-operative and competitive goals, like co-op kills, dual streaks and winner-take-all bonuses.

Follow Contract Work!
Hi, my name is Kee-Won Hong, I'm a one man Indie team and I love making video games. Since my humble start modding the original Half-Life to my more recent work on commercial titles, I've had one goal: to design and release my own game. When I was laid off at the beginning of this year, I decided to turn a setback into an opportunity and create the game I've always wanted to make.
I wanted to combine the great action of a retro 2d shooter with the awesome customization of a modern action rpg. Take the best retro shooters like Megaman and Contra, mix with the character development of System Shock 2 or Deus Ex and place that in a gritty cyberpunk world like Akira or Ghost in the Shell. The result is Contract Work.
This project has been entirely self funded and developed and contains ideas that I've been thinking about for years. Thank you for checking out my Kickstarter, and I'm excited to share the world of Contract Work with you.
2113 is a dystopia where massive corporations control the world through vast robotic armies, where your character is one of the last truly independent humans. Even the most powerful corporations depend on your unique skills to handle their delicate 'situations'. This contract work is high risk but higher reward, and for those with talent there is unlimited potential.

I'm planning on bringing Contract Work to iOS and Android eventually after the web release - if the campaign is funded, a likely stretch goal will be for mobile device support. I'm also looking into Contract Work on the Ouya & Gamestick!
Kill robots and get paid for it
Money drives the world of Contract Work .You'll be able to decide which contracts you want to take and how you want to handle them. Lucrative contracts come with larger risks, and you can even underbid a contract, adding more risk for a bigger payday. It's all up to you to decide.
Contracts will have many different locations and objectives, like defending data servers, stealing corporate intelligence or a hostile takeover of a rival HQ. Your robotic competition will take many forms, each presenting their own challenges. You never know who's going to show up at the office to make your day difficult.
Finally, you'll earn 'performance based bonuses' during contracts. You'll get extra cash for chaining a kill streak, hacking every terminal, destroying every enemy plus many other bonuses. Customize your play style to maximize your profits!
Guns, lots of guns...
Contract work lets you customize each character the way you see fit. Each freelancer comes with a unique set of weapons, abilities and perks that you can purchase through your hard earned dollars. There are no skill trees here - if you can pay, you can play!
Once you've increased your net worth, you'll access specialist classes that unlock new items.An automation specialist can deploy remote defenses like turrets or barriers. Explosives experts will have access to proximity mines, explosive ammunition and rocket launchers. Hacking experts can even mind jack bots to turn them against their allies.
The final perk of being a freelancer is being able to sub-contract help for your missions. Your team could be your most valuable asset, but hire and fire carefully - this world is full of closet revolutionaries, corporate spies and other shady characters.
A world full of mystery and the freedom to explore it
The universe of 2113 is dangerous and in constant flux, and you'll make many decisions that will effect both you, the world and the outcome of your story. In this dark future, every action has consequence.Every dollar in your account increases the power of your character, but what was the cost to put it there?
I've been funding Contract Work by myself for the last couple months but I'm not going to be able to finish it without your help!
Here's what I have planned for the full release:
50 base perks, 10 weapons, 10 special abilities, 3 specializations
Multiple contract types and locations, 20 different competitors, including bosses
Support team members, 3 unique stories to complete

Tier 3 ($50, limited)
Help design a contractor perk. Perks are a unique ability that is unlocked during a mission that gives the contractor a special advantage. Some examples include incendiary ammunition for a weapon, decreased hacking time or faster run speed.
OR - craft a humorous/interesting/mysterious flavor e-mail that will show up in-game.

Tier 4 ($100, limited)
Have you or a friend/acquaintance featured as a character in the Contract Work universe
You'll get to specify an alignment (corporate, revolutionary or machine) and pick an alias and avatar. Then play the game to see what your character becomes! You could be lionized as the fiery hero of the underground, or cast that old boss you had as a ruthless corporate scientist. As a part of this reward, you'll receive a 'Corporate Intelligence File' digital download. The file will contain exclusive art and more backstory on your character and their role in the Contract Work universe.

Help design a competitor or a support character.
Competitors (enemies) are attack robots. They come in many flavors and have different abilities. For example, headhunters are flying enemies that hunt down the player, while upper management competitors are boss enemies that have more health and multiple weapons.
Support characters are central to the Contract Work story and will interact frequently with your character. You pick the name, avatar, catchphrases and alignment for your support character.
As a part of this reward, you'll receive a 'Corporate Intelligence File' digital download. The file will contain exclusive art and more backstory on your character/competitor and their role in the Contract Work universe.
OR choose any one of the Tier 3 or 4 ptions

Risks and challenges
Will the game be completed if the funding goal is met?
Absolutely. I've been building software and games for years and understand what it takes to create, develop and deliver a product. There is nothing more important to me right now than getting this game completed...but you don't have to take my word for it, see for yourself:

I noticed you have a pretty aggressive release date. Can you actually finish the game by then?
Yes! Most of the heavy technology work is already done, and HTML5/Impact makes updating quick and easy. In addition, after Contract Work goes live I can easily add additional content and features. I'm very confident that Contract Work will be available for everyone to play starting June 2013.
Will the game be fun? Will it deliver value for my money?
Yes! Beyond the planning I've done, I've created metrics tied into every release that will inform me how to best improve the game. Weekly beta updates will let you quickly tell me what you like (and don't like) about the direction of the game.
I'm very excited about this project and I've decided to donate at a higher tier. Will my reward be fulfilled?
Definitely! Your rewards are actually a critical part of the building of this game, not something that would take time away from development. Each reward helps me build a richer universe and also gives you a unique artifact to call your own.
Whoa. Designing something is a lot of pressure. What if I just want to donate at a higher level?
No worries. You can help as much or as little as you want based on your reward. Maybe you just want to write some copy or tweak some artwork - that's perfectly acceptable! You still get my undying gratitude, a special place in the credits and your input on the design.
I'm worried about all this design by committee. Will the game be unbalanced? Will it have offensive content?
Even though I'm collaborating with many partners to create this universe, I'm reserving final say on everything. I'll work with every partner as much as I can, but at the end of the day if content is offensive, unbalanced or a bad fit it won't be a part of the game (refunds will be given if applicable).
