Allonian Seed is a narrative adventure/exploration game where you play as a bot created from a mysterious crystalline object known as the Seed. These robots are sentient, intelligent beings who can be sent on tasks or directly controlled by the player. You, as a robot, have found yourself in the home of a family that needs your help, even if they don't realize it yet -- or how much the bots will need their help.
As your understanding of the world grows, so will your numbers, and with the Seed now active inside the family PC and fueled by the activities on the STEEM, you will be greeted with new parts (bodies, heads, and various tools) and possibly even new robots with their own abilities and missions
Storyline - excerpt
The lights were off in the apartment, and all was still and quiet. In the study, the power light on the computer pulsed rhythmically, reminding the room that it was sleeping. Its last tasks suspended in ram, and on disk, waiting, put there by the Operating System for quick retrieval on the chance to spring back into action. Most nights this would have been the state the computer found itself in until morning, but this was not most nights.
The stone [the boy had found and brought home] sat motionless in the dark room, its strange light dancing across its surface, the only reminder that it was there. Then, as if it knew it was alone, the stone began to vibrate. As a low hum filled the air, every vein within the rock began to luminesce, creating rivers of light from deep within. Tendril like trails began to extend beyond the shape of the stone, flowing like water or lava, over the case and entering the computer at every port and seam. The trails of light traveled over circuits, over cables, splitting again and again --- a mycelial network of electricity connecting to every component of the machine. For several minutes this continued, a dance of light draining from one vessel to the next, and then the stone dimmed. No light remained in the room except the periodic flash from the computer --- still asleep through all that transpired.
Soon after the stone finished, the family returned home, and just in time as the storm had started raining in earnest right as they made it to the apartment's mostly uncovered parking lot. "Oh my! I am soaked. Lenard you need to get off those wet clothes and get ready for bed," Lenard's mother said the moment they made it through the door. It wasn't an order per-say, but he knew better than to question her when she was wet and cold. So he went straight to it. His parents went on to their room as well, and before long the sound of a hot shower running could be heard. Lenard didn't feel like a shower and enjoyed the smell of the rain on his skin. Using a basically clean towel, he quickly dried off and put on his usual night clothes of sweat pants and a t-shirt before slipping into the study. The rock looked different . . . and felt different, as well. It didn't buzz when he touched it, and it was the same temperature as the room. He could see cracks deep within the rock, but it looked somehow empty. He couldn't have imagined the dancing lights or the shape in its center . . . could he? Maybe it just needed sunlight, he thought sadly, and took it from the room.
Full Story - first draft of the opening of the game.
A story in 3 Acts:
Allonian Seed will be split into 3 acts, which should contain at least 8 hours of game play each.
Act 1: The Allonians begin to appear on earth as people discover the seeds and realize the power they contain. You are the bots created from one such seed, and it is up to you to gain the trust of the humans, as well as learn about the world you now call home. But dark forces from long ago are gathering as well.
Act 2: Humans and Allonians alike are now frightened and unsure of each other as rumors of "the corruption" spread. You are now tasked with the protection of all the humans and the seed that formed you. Create supply lines and fortifications to stop the corrupted from hurting you and your friends.
Act 3: With the help of mankind, the Allonians not yet corrupted have a new weapon at their disposal: a means not only to stop the corruption, but to free those who have been tainted! You're now on the offensive, teaming up with humans and bots as you take back your neighborhood and help undermine the plans of the enemy.
The competitive multiplayer side of the game will be considered disconnected from the story arch, but parts and upgrades you find within the game will become available in multiplayer as well.
More than a game.
Along with the in-game digital rewards, players will unlock 3D printable parts to show off their in-game progress. Our hope is to make each part durable enough to be considered a toy and printable on most consumer grade 3D printers.
- Every player begins with one bot.
- Five bots per user can be in play at any given time.
- Users get weekly "gear modules" based on their participation in the block chain (posts, comments, etc.).
- Parts are finite, and there will be a market place to buy or trade parts.
- Single-player game with rich story-line connecting you to the world.
- Over 1000 possible body and part combinations at launch.
- Mix and match eyes, legs, and support.
- Have access to 3D printable "action figures" that can be mixed and matched, as well (kind of like reverse Skylanders).
- Asynchronous design allows play without an internet connection. *
- Every person who buys the game will have an account created on STEEM to start blogging right away.
* Any items found in the game will show as "needs appraisal" and are not available for use until the internet connection is restored.
- Multiplayer activities: Puzzles, scavenger hunts, battles, and more.
- In-game access to posts, possible ability to write posts IN GAME
- Console support: Play the game on Nintendo Switch, XBox, PS4, etc.
We have been hard at work creating concepts, designs, and the game-play mechanics, and have an early demo coming soon. Most of the core interactions are complete and only need fine tuning. Things like connection to STEEM are still in the works given the need for a server to handle the data conversion. Please note that no images or logos should be considered "FINAL" and we will give continuous updates as the game develops.
Below are a few screenshots of the game so far.
We have been chronicling our progress (here)
This will fund the development of Allonian Seed from start to finish by Benjamin Flanagin with the help of his two sons (Liam and Seamus) on PC along with any console that is within budget. This amount includes money for contingencies as well as tax and fees. This money will also be used toward the educational services and center which will include getting the right tax codes, finding a location, and quite possibly looking for investors to help with further funding. We will add stretch goals that fit with in the mission which may include among other things:
- Print on demand services: Don't have a printer we'll use one of ours to print the bot parts and send them to you.
- Faster turn around on the educational center.
- Added features and rewards.
We will release the first act of the game on the anniversary of the Kickstarter's end (approximately May 2020). All funds will be used for the completion of the game as well as the educational center. The second and third acts will be crowdfunded, as well, and will be released as either stand alone games or as DLC. Everyone who has backed the game at a level that receives a copy of the game will receive all future acts for free. The game will be released on Linux, Windows, and Mac at launch.
Allonian Seed is the first step in creating a game development company in North Central Texas (Bridgeport,TX) that exclusively uses open source technologies. It is our long term goal to offer classes on game development and have a store-front where students can learn and display their works. Though this campaign is about the game, consider any dollar amount given to the project as a dollar toward these long term goals, as well. Given our dedication to education, we are offering various rewards that include tutorials on how to create every aspect of a game.
In this project, we will be using the following open source software to create the game and its contents.
Godot 3.1+: Godot is a community-funded game engine that offers ease of use without sacrificing capabilities. Its features set allows us to develop the game on Linux and port it to other major operating systems, as well as consoles. (find out more)
Blender: Blender is a feature-rich 3D authoring suite that has been around for decades. It has been used in films, advertising, and the game industry for almost as many years. (find out more)
Inkscape: Vector-based drawing application with plugins for days. (find out more)
Krita: Professional-grade illustration app that is used in countless projects around the web. (find out more)
Gimp: The granddaddy of all FOSS graphical applications. The GIMP has been a mainstay in the opensource community from the beginning. (find out more)
Pop!_OS: Developed by System 76, Pop!_OS is a stable and capable operating system and will be used as the primary OS on all computers in the company. Their dedication to opensource and its community makes it a great fit for this and future projects. (find out more)
Steem: Fast, stable block chain with very few barriers of entry. Its selling point for this project is that it is a "social" chain where users create content (blogs, videos, audio, etc.) on a plethora of interfaces that all feed into a central database that is distributed between STEEM nodes. (find out more)
After being funded, we will use some of the money to help fund the software we use. It is our belief that it is our duty as members of the opensource community to give back in whatever way we can to the creators of the software we use. Likewise, we understand the importance of using locally sourced services and talents, so for any job that is offered or any reward rendered we will try our best to use companies in and around our community.
Why a blockchain?
Allonian Seed should not be considered a dapp or a blockchain based game. We use the social interactions on the chain, and will utilize their smart contract systems for user trades, but that is all. It is the posts and content that users create that makes the difference within Allonian Seed, and given the numerous sites and services that feed into STEEM, we are confident no matter where you post or what you post, Allonian Seed will analyze it and give you in-game rewards.
The current team consists of the three Bridgeport Flanagin boys: Ben (father), Liam (10 years old), Seamus (8 years old) and Conrad (head of security). Ben has over 15 years of development experience and has been teaching his boys game development as a part of their at-home education. You can follow Ben on the following social networks:
Facebook: Vague Entertainment
Discord: Allonian Seed

Risks and challenges
Currently we are faced with many of the startup problems that game companies face. We are taking a risk in dedicating time to the project and aging hardware could fail and cause delays. Most of these challenges have been addressed in the budget however unforeseen issues are always possible. When funded we will set aside as much money as possible for as long as possible for such issues. We also have stretch goals to add additional staff to help speed up and offset some of the challenges we may face.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
