Thanks for your interest in our project!
Mo'Fone is a boisterous trio of 2 saxophones and drums. We've been featured twice at the Monterey Jazz Festival, several times at the San Francisco & Sonoma Jazz Festivals (including a feature as part of the SFJAZZ Hotplate Series), headlined at the Oakland Art & Soul Festival Jazz Stage, and played at top venues around the Bay Area. Our first 2 CDs, Surf's up (2001) and Sling Shot (2008), both on local label Evander Music, have garnered rave reviews in a huge number of top jazz publications and websites. We've also been voted "Best Jazz Group" in the 2008 & 2012 East Bay Express Readers' Poll. Both of our CD's have been played on radio stations all around the world.
All this to say, we've come pretty far on our own without major label support. But to hire world class professionals with the skills and acumen to make a top-notch recording, it costs money. WIth the combined expenses of recording, mixing, mastering, artwork, manufacturing, and hiring guest musicians, we want to make sure we can finish the project and not have to cut any corners.
So we've decided to bring our new album project to the people (that's you!). We've been busy writing and rehearsing new material for the past several months, and we're excited to move forward and get into the studio. We're lining up some very special musical luminaries to play with us on select tunes, and have nailed down commitments from a world class engineer and our favorite mastering guru at Fantasy Records. We even have a commitment from the Freight & Salvage, one of the premier performance venues on the West Coast, for our CD release show. All we need to do now is record the album! And that's how you can help -- by supporting our Kickstarter campaign, you can play a meaningful and vital role in making new and creative music happen.
There are lots of great rewards you can earn for supporting our album project, from copies of the CD to VIP visits to the recording studio and a private concert with the band. But the richest reward is knowing that you played a important part in helping the creation of new and stimulating music, and were a very real and integral part of sustaining the tradition of an American art form. Our artistic legacy as a society is what we leave behind that inspires people. We are honored to be a part of that incredibly rich history, and are deeply grateful for your help in enabling us to be so.
Thank you so much for your support. We couldn't do it without you.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge we face with this project is managing the timeline for each stage of the process. We can't move forward with confirming any dates without being funded. And with needing to book studio time, arrange musicians' schedules and nail down a CD release date well in advance, it can get tricky to line everything up perfectly. But we have commitments from our engineer, studio, mastering facility, and venue, from people we know and trust. They understand the financial realities facing the project and are willing to be flexible to make it work for us. It only takes 30 days to fund the project. If we can get funded in a month, everything will work out perfectly!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
