"I AM A FLOWER POT MADE FOR A PLANT," is a children's book that focuses on educating children affected by liver failure and transplantation. It also educates readers about the importance of being an organ and tissue donor.
"I am a flower pot made for a plant," tells the story of four year old Assiah’s adventurous search for her liver transplant. On her adventure, Assiah makes friends with Juju a fascinating and vivacious 10 year old with leukemia. Together they explore the mystical world of a hospital greenhouse in an attempt to find a plant for Assiah's failing liver. While in Sari, Assiah meets Oliver, a magical talking tree that explains the importance of the body’s biliary system and organ donation.
Why this Matters?
We all have treasured childhood stories that have affected the way we see reality. Instead of producing a book that only focuses on the procedural process of transplant, I want to share the curiosity, imagination and personalities behind transplant children. I believe the best way to do this is through a book that will be read with children and parents and live on their bookshelves for years to come.
I believe stories are the most formative force of our childhood. Everyone has a book that made the world seem beautiful and full of possibility. My book is about the captivating imaginations of children facing life altering illnesses that complicate their lives. Although they are faced with monumental challenges beyond their years, these children possess the most prized characteristic known to man…the ability to imagine. For with our imagination we can escape harsh realities, change perceptions and heal the weak.
Why a storybook?
Childhood illness in the 21st century is more prevalent than ever before. Emotional and intellectual competence during these times is imminent. This generation is increasingly affected by childhood cancers, transplants and rare diseases that desperately need more books that create dialogue for it.
More importantly, writing stories that children can understand aids in their expression, creativity and practical knowledge of what they themselves, family members or friends are going through. Our kids should learn to imagine, question and cope in a way that is healthy and comforting for them. I believe that there is plenty to learn from this book and making it a reality will allow that to happen.
"I am a flower pot made for a plant," will be a classic journey of discovery that teaches readers about different people working together through traumatic experiences and still living to be happy. The illustrations are as important as the story so my book will be full of detail, bold colors and magical moments, in a world where everything is not apparent at once.

Risks and challenges
This is the first time I’m doing a children's book. I’ve talked with several KickStarter authors about the process as well as other children's book authors. I have a quote on initial 2000 copies. The storybook is industry standard, so production problems shouldn't be an issue. This will be launched as a KickStarter project so at the end of the fundraiser, I'll know the number of books I can afford and where I should be printing them. Shipping is expensive and always a bit of an unknown. This is why I’m planning on shipping the books with Amazon and using their third party fulfillment services.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
