Case-Ons is a family of clips that snap onto CD jewel cases enabling quick and simple alternatives to picture displays, building sets, and other everyday objects yet-to-be identified! Assemblies (termed "Onstructions") can ultimately be conceived, shared, and rated on the Case-Ons website (www.case-ons.com). This is a fresh new take on reuse and a welcomed gift for the tinkering kid inside us all!
The project started when I looked at the stack of CDs in my apartment and noticed how the tower holding them resembled a structure that could've been paneled together from shapes very close in size to the CD cases. Upon further inspection, I noticed that most standard cases also exhibited prominent lipped edges, perfect for a snap-fit connection. Several prototypes and broken cases later, the design family of 4 clips herein evolved and now manufacturing plans have begun!
WHERE YOU CAN HELP:
The major hurdle at this time is transitioning from prototypes to actual finished parts. This involves tool design and fabrication for injection molding plastic. The majority of all other efforts (including patenting and web development) have been completed in-house on the cheap by me (a pseudo design-engineer) however this aspect must be outsourced and funding above is necessary to achieve it.
WHAT YOU CAN GET:
Depending on your level of support, I've lined up some pretty cool rewards... bit of explanation below:
- $10: The sampler will be an impromptu package containing all 4 clips, 1 of each style.
- $25: The full package will contain the final packaging and an assortment of all Case-On styles, allowing most basic Onstructions to be assembled. Retail someday will hopefully be closer to $10, but this is a fundraiser so help me out and I'll throw in a sampler for free! (and take advantage of the $5 discount if you can pick them up!).
- Note that initial Case-On color selections will be black, white, recycling green, and clear (packages containing 1 color of all 4 clips). The goal is to complement your CD case artwork/personal pictures rather than distract from them, except that the green is trending towards 100% fun. For the rewards, I will try to accommodate every color request!
- The packaging design is still under development but it is expected to mimic the approximate size of a CD case. This way, the package, itself, can be used to consolidate and store the contents of the cases that you plan to build with! In general, the contents of 1 case (CD + album art) can be consolidated down about 80% of the original volume- shrinking your music library to a fraction of its existing physical size with each additional Case-Ons purchase!
SHIPPING NOTE: For international shipments additional shipping charge will apply (about $15). Plus for locals who can pick up their rewards vs. shipping then deduct $5 from the listed reward levels and drop me a line at josh@caseons.com to arrange pick-up (so the $25 level becomes $20).
Lastly, there are tons of interesting design/development information that I could offer as rewards, as well as lunch with me, etc., but if you have any questions or want to chat just send me a message and I'll do my best to get back to you. For locals, I'd also be glad to meet with you over a coffee. That being said, this Kickstarter endeavor is just one step of many for Case-Ons so if you wish to get more involved the door is largely open....
Thanks for your support!
