The Books Are on Thier Way

The Books are on their Way!

Finally!

The second proof came and looked fantastic! I think you will all agree it has been worth the wait.

They are due to me on Sept 12th.

For anyone to whom I owe a book (or anyone who just wants to show up and be festive): There will be a book launch and signing on Sunday, September 30th at Niagara Landing Winery! It will be held from noon until 2pm. **Print out this update and you will be given a coin entitling you to a free glass of wine (your choice)** There will be snacks, cheese, crackers, fruit etc. If the weather and harvest permit, there will be a wine tour at 1pm. Please RSVP if you possibly can. The winery is in Lockport, New York:

For those of you living far away from Upstate New York, who are teetotalers, or who simply cannot make it, please be sure to give me your physical address (if you haven't already) and I will mail your signed copy within a week of my receiving them. Again, please LET ME KNOW if you cannot make the signing and I will deliver your book.

Thank you all again SOOO much for your support !!!!!

Cheers,

The Baroness

In the works!

Hi There!

Some of you are doubtlessly convinced that I absconded to Mexico with your money.  I tried but only got as far as Tennessee.

I received the physical proof of the book and, as I anticipated, there were formatting issues.  Nothing major, but things that marked the book as amateur.  For example, too much of an indent on my paragraphs.  And spaces between paragraphs.  These little things don't matter much to readers if the story is good, and my inclination was to ignore them and publish as is.  But these things *do* make a difference to reviewers.  Also, I know how the book is "supposed" to look (i.e. industry standard) so I could not bring myself to accept the physical proof as it was.

I wasted a LOT of timing not getting any help from the Create Space people, finally got them to admit that they could not do what I wanted, and FINALLY finally did what I should have done in the first place and hired a freelance professional.

This weekend her and I will wrap up the final formatting changes.  Then Monday the 20th, the new files will be uploaded to Create Space.  Based on prior experience with them, I anticipate 10 days from then for my revised proof to arrive.  I do *not* anticipate any problems with this one.

This has been a much longer, much bumpier road than I expected, even in my most fitful dreams!  But it took 5 years to write the thing, so I felt it was worth the extra few weeks to ensure it looks nice, too.  Thanks for bearing with me!

Cheers,

The Baroness

Proofs on Way (Finally!)

Hello!

Soooo sorry that it has taken a month to send another update!  The cover was rejected two more times and my graphics guy quit out of frustration saying we were abusing the software (in his defense we *were* in fact abusing the software) but here is an email that came to me from the printer this week:

"Hello Melody Von Smith,

The physical proof of "Survivanoia", Book #3720667, has been ordered. This is to notify you that the proof will ship within five days. Another notification email will be sent to you once the proof ships from our facility."

The "proof" is a copy of the actual book as it stands, to be proof read for errors.

Let me please warn you that I anticipate one more round.  Things become noticeable in the  print version that were overlooked numerous times by numerous sets of eyes on the Word Doc.  Also, of course, new problems can be generated by the formatting from a Word Processing program to an actual book.

But we are waaaaay closer than we have ever been :)

If you have not yet sent me your physical address, please do so (unless of course you plan to pick up your copy at the book launch party, tentatively set for the second weekend in September. )  Some of you I still owe a questionnaire and I hope to get those out later this week.

I will let you know when the "proof" copy arrives, and let you know again when I have proof-read it! Thanks again for your support - and thanks for your patience in this tedious process!

Cheers,

The Baroness
