About this project
I've been funded, THANK YOU, but the more contributions I get, the more books I can make! My official budget for the book project is $6,000 and I feared that I didn't have the ability to meet that goal in the all or nothing Kickstarter. Please consider pledging above and beyond my stated goal. Thank you very much.
Hello! My name is A.M. O’Malley and I wrote a book called Tiny Bones: Memoir with a Wide Margin. Tiny Bones is a hybrid of poem and memoir.
Tiny Bones tells the story of breaking 25 bones before age 20, of hoarding government cheese in my closet and of being the new kid at twelve different schools.
It is a story of growing up poor, of searching for a father, forgiving my alcoholic mother and coming out as queer.
Tiny Bones is a collection of snapshot stories that make up the whole, larger story.
I’ve been working on Tiny Bones for almost a decade and I am ready to finish the final editing and organization of the book. Luckily, I have been offered two residencies this summer to do just that. I will be in a distraction free workspace for a total of five weeks to fine-tune the final draft. When I return home I will be printing a small run of Tiny Bones in an art book edition with a letterpress cover, hand-stitched binding and wood block printed illustrations. I’m doing this to get Tiny Bones fully birthed and out into the world. I will also use the book I make to pass along to publishers, reviewers and agents who may want to help me make the next big step--publishing my book on a larger scale.
Why I Need Funds:
If I am to take advantage of the incredible opportunity these residencies are offering, I need to cover some basic expenses that include travel, supplies and food. Mostly, I need your help with publishing and printing costs of the art book edition of Tiny Bones. I plan to do much of the production of Tiny Bones by hand, however, production costs add up in this sort of self-publishing endeavor with the cost of supplies. I will also need funds to send the finished books to you, to other paying customers, reviewers and bookstores.
What You Get in Return:
As a “thank you” for your support, I will be making a series of creatively bound, unique, zines that include my own original work. I will also be hitting the letterpress studio when I get back from the residencies, where I will make a set of stationary inspired by my time away. Major contributors will receive a rare and precious copy of Tiny Bones as a thank you! If this campaign is successful, I will owe it to the financial support of those who value self-publishing and creative writing.
Please remember that Kickstarter is an all or nothing campaign. It’s up to you to help me get to my goal.
Any support you can give, at any level, is greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much.
