Lara has always lived in the shadow of her mother. That is, until the morning of one life-changing decision that Lara knows, must be made alone.
WHAT THE STORY IS ABOUT
The story of MOTHER is that of a young woman named Lara who's struggling to find her own voice. When she finds herself having to make an important decision, Lara has to decide whether this is her chance to finally stand up for herself and change her life forever or continue living a life that is not her own.
The heart of this film is about why we find it so hard to be who we truly are or say what we really want. We're all much bigger on the inside, but when do we allow ourselves to show it? If only we could... what would happen? How would our lives be different?
WHO WE ARE
MOTHER is a short film written by Jumaan Short, directed by Marc Hardman and produced by Reine Issa. It includes the wonderful BAFTA Award winner Miriam Margolyes in the role of Maria and the talented Jumaan Short in the role of LARA.
Jumaan Short – Executive Producer, Writer and Actress (LARA)
"The story of MOTHER comes from a desire to free ourselves from the masks we wear and from how the world tells us to be, look and feel. What a relief that would be!"
Jumaan is an actress and new writer who is passionate about telling powerful, inspiring yet domestic stories. She is currently developing several other projects.
Reine Issa – Producer
Reine studied finance and psychology before following her passion for films and working in film production. She has since worked on several short films and a feature and is now a freelance producer living in London working on several other projects.
Marc Hardman – Director
Marc is a freelance Film Director and Writer with 15 years experience in the television and film industry. He is the founder of Luckycoin Films. In his broadcast career he has created work for some of the world's most respected brands (MTV, Nike, Nokia) at some of the UK's leading broadcasters and design agencies (English&Pockett, Lambie-Nairn, BBC, Discovery Channel). He has written and directed several short films including the award-winning comedy "WE ARE WHAT WE DRINK" and more recently the quirky comedy "THIS WAY UP."

Miriam Margolyes – Actor (MARIA)
We were honoured to have Miriam Margolyes in our film. She was wonderful to work with and so hilarious it was hard to keep a straight face during shooting!
Miriam Margolyes, OBE, is a veteran of stage and screen and an award-winning actress. Winner of the BAFTA Best Supporting Actress award in 1993 for The Age of Innocence, she also received Best Supporting Actress at the 1989 LA Critics Circle Award for her role in Little Dorrit and a Sony Radio Award for Best Actress in 1993 for her unabridged recording or ‘Oliver Twist’. WHY THIS FILM IS IMPORTANT TO US
This film is important to us because it tackles the basic concept of human interaction: communication. Good, open communication is vital but it is also easily neglected. The film focuses on the importance to speak up about what we want and how we feel and stand up for our own beliefs. The film follows the strained relationship between a mother and a daughter, but it can easily be applied to any other type of relationship. The story speaks differently to each person in our team and we each relate to it in our own way, with the different relationships that we have. We therefore believe that anyone can relate to the core theme of our film.
WHAT WE NEED
The fantastic news is that we have already shot our film and the rushes look brilliant. We only need a bit of extra help to complete it and share it with the world. We need your help and support for our post-production phase, which covers the editing, colour grading, sound design and mixing, music composing and festival fees as we want to reach as wide of an audience as possible around the world. We had an incredible, dynamic crew who shot the film and worked for very little, we want to do the film justice also for them. Please take a look at our selection of rewards! Highlights include autographed photos of Miriam Margolyes - (8th reward on the right hand side) and her copy of the script with notes (last reward)!

Risks and challenges
Since we have already shot our film, the risks and challenges we face are somewhat lower, but you never can predict what happens in film making! However, we have a strong plan of action for the next few months, with our editor, sound mixer and composer all already on board. Since people are working around their other work/schedules and tours, time may be a challenge, but we will keep you notified of our progress at all times!
We are determined and certain that we will produce a beautiful film that you will be proud to have been a part of.
Thank you once again for taking the time to read about our project and thank you in advance if you decide to contribute. It means a lot to each and every one of us.
Love Jumaan, Marc, Reine, Luca and all of the crew xLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
