Hi Kickstarters! Thanks for checking out our project. Worried about the general rep of T-shirts, we sat down to reinvent the way they are made, look and feel and initiated a project called The T-shirt Issue.
What's the Issue?
The first issue: the T-shirt is one of the most personal pieces of clothing, yet with their current mass market treatment, they offer the wearer little individuality.
The second (and in our minds, the REAL) issue: no matter what cosmetic alterations you apply to the T, the shirt remains the same... a four piece pattern that has remained unchanged since it's birth in the 19th century.
So we've applied 21st century technology to the classic silhouette of the T-shirt and created a garment that reflects the rise of the digital revolution!
All of our work was inspired by a shape; today's T-shirt pattern was reconstructed in a 3D environment into a one-piece pattern. And what we found in this single shape, is an elegant solution to the uniformity of today's T's. By applying mathematic principles to this one-piece pattern, we can generate countless variations of free shapes - or cuts - that determine the number and path of the seams across the open field of the T.
And no matter how many times the free shape is tweaked, the one thing that never changes is the fit. Finally, we've opened up the T-shirt for customization from the core, not just its exterior. We've broke the code of the T!
Introducing the first range:Our very first range is
introduced here on Kickstarter and consists of 3 T-shirts and
sweatshirts, each with a unique pattern - and unique seams.
Both the T's and sweatshirts come in 3 different colors and are standard unisex sized S, M, L and XL.
*** Please note that the displayed colors might differ slightly from the actual product, as the fabric still needs to be dyed. ***
Our first project, "Digital Portraits", is fundamental to our discovery of the new T. We scanned 3 human bodies into a computer, and asked these people about their personal hopes, dreams and fears. Using 3D technologies, we incorporated their memories onto the shirts, giving shape to their imagination.
After hearing a story about a boy being brought up by a wolf, one of them wished to have one looking over his shoulder as well. Inscribing the poetry of technology into basic jersey, we helped him to realize his dream and in turn, realized our own.
After the Digital Portraits series we came out with the first 3D posters. As part of an overnight decoration campaign, we covered the city with these posters. Most didn't last longer than an hour. We brought them back as reward to our pledgers.
With Your Help
We've been able to cover all costs up until this point, but now we need your help to start production and continue the development. The plan is to use your pledge to purchase fabrics in custom widths (our patterns require extra-wide fabrics) and multiple colors and finally start production. We have a production plant, that we know and love, ready to produce garments. We are ready... and we want you to be a part of our pioneering journey into the twenty-first century of clothing design.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know us!
Your pledge will not only aid us, but will also help stimulate education and technological innovation in places you would least expect it. On reaching our end goal, we'll donate 3% of the proceedings to the One Laptop project, which strives to get every kid in the world a laptop of their own. http://one.laptop.org/
Love, The T-Shirt Issue.
