My name is Nicholas Galanos, and I have joined forces with the talented artist Crizam Zamora (The Precinct; Swords of Sorrow), colorist Dinei Ribeiro (The Precinct; Swords of Sorrow), and letterer/graphic designer Deyvison Manes to produce Preble’s Boys: Legends of the Officer Corps – a nineteenth century historical fiction seafaring adventure. This comic, intended to be an eight issue mini-series, recounts the true tale of a group of young and daring officers under the tutelage of the harsh and disciplined Commodore Edward Preble during the Barbary Wars in the early nineteenth century. Together these young Americans embrace an ethos of glory, heroism and patriotism on the high seas that would define not only the United States Navy but the nation itself. Relive the duels, the combat and the sea chases as these young officers, under Commodore Preble, fight the brutish and avaricious pirates of Tripoli.
This comic series employs real dialogue from actual letters and conversations. I have, however, without weakening the overall truth of the story, created a series that feels, at times, surreal – accentuating the battles, the duels, the pirate harems, and the overall grandeur of the time.
The first comic script is fully written and the first eight pages are complete. Our goal is to be fully finished with the first comic within 60 days. If we are not taken on by a comic book publishing company within that time, then we will publish through my own company called Skylark Comics.
All profits earned will go to finishing the project to include artwork and coloring as well as into printed copies of the comic. Our goal is to first publish digitally and then to publish in print.
Risks and challenges
Our collective team is comprised of some of the most talented in the comic world. Crizam and Dinei are just coming off a huge success with Dynamite's successful mini-series called The Precinct. Our dedicated team is ready to deliver the first comic, fully finished, within 60 days. We do not foresee any issues with finishing the comic and publishing digitally. Our main challenge will be earning enough money to go to print. But with your help we believe this highly attainable.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
