Rising Kale Farms is a home grown, community-inspired, non-profit project designed out of the desire to help bring real change to peoples lives through a common denominator: real, wholesome food.
After spending 25 years in the hairdressing industry, I started Rising Kale Farms as a project in sustainability. Currently, we raise free-range, cage free, organic chicken, duck and quail for their eggs, which we distribute to families in need while we continue to expand our reach and spread awareness through the local farmers market scene.
That’s why we’ve joined Kickstarter: to do more than just bring awareness to the obvious concerns about diets that lack nutritious food, but to be proactive in continuing to provide those nutritious whole foods for disadvantaged families and children in the community, not just once our goal has been reached, but for years to come.
But, we need your help to make this happen. Our funding goal of $20,000 will help fabricate and construct a 30’ x 100’ high tunnel greenhouse. This space will allow us to grow enough fresh, organic, locally grown food to feed 4 families for 1 year.
By growing and raising vegetables in an agriculturally controlled environment like our greenhouse, we can consistently provide nutritious, wholesome food for these families in need.
Because we believe that all of what you donate should go to making this vision a reality, 100% of your donation will go toward building the structure to grow the food to feed the families. Not one penny of the funding donated will go toward administrative costs or salaries...period!
Any additional funding raised above and beyond our target goal, through your generosity will go directly toward the purchase of seeds, supplies, manpower and improving infrastructure on the farm, directly related to the future of growing healthy food.
In addition, our plans for expansion are in place for establishing a catch and release educational fishing program, [at our on-farm pond] for county-wide disadvantaged youth.
Risks and challenges
With every project around the farm, careful planning is the most important aspect of making sure everything goes smoothly. Fortunately, I am a individual with a pretty keen sense when it comes to the details. I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by talented, hard working and "dedicated to the cause" folks who really care.
But, with every step we take, there are certain challenges. Especially when it comes to tending to life so fragile as a living, growing plant. We are ensuring that what we plant and the varieties of vegetables we grow are not only "certified organic," but the hardiest of varieties.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
