This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Fri, August 31 2018 1:00 AM UTC +00:00.
Our mission is to produce a funny, irreverent anthology of humorous science fiction and fantasy short stories every year, featuring a recurring cast of amazing headliners and the best funny up-and-comers we can find.
The 2018 volume is headlined by Esther Friesner, Mike Resnick, Seanan McGuire, Gini Koch, and Laura Resnick. It includes twenty funny stories written by the field's top writers as well as exciting newcomers.
Here's a tiny taste of the stories you'll get in this book:
* A long time ago in a galaxy close enough not to violate any copyrights, the clone army fighting for the side of the evil empire is made up of a bunch of bros named Chad.
* Can a couple of wise guys from New Jersey broker a sit down between two groups of warring aliens?
* Witness an epic battle of mad science vs. dark magic.
* US presidents elected in 1860 and 1960 were both assassinated. What's going to happen to whoever's elected in 2060?
* Beware the dragon polite enough to return your drone after it breached the barriers between worlds and bonked him on the snout.
Each UFO volume features offbeat and unique stories unlike any other anthology series. If you haven't yet read any UFO books, check out these sample stories:
We publish a range of humorous stories, from outright hilarious to snarky, and try to cover a wide range of humor styles, from satire to absurdist. Our books are illustrated, featuring nine original illustrations per volume drawn by the amazing Barry Munden. Our covers are drawn by the equally awesome Tomasz Maronski.
We believe that any crowd-funded anthology should provide an opportunity for newer authors to be included. A large portion of the stories we publish each year are accepted via our open submission window. Of the twenty stories included here, fifteen were selected this way. Each of these writers earned a pro rate of $0.10 per word, their sales to UFO qualify them for associate membership in the Science Fiction Writers of America (SFWA), and their work will appear alongside well-known masters in our field.
Your support of this campaign ensures that we'll be able to continue to work with authors, illustrators, and other professionals, and offer them fair pay above the industry average.

If you select this tier your name (or the name of your choice) will be used in one of the stories in this book. We won't tell you in advance which story; you could be a villain, a hero, or merely a bystander, but when you read UFO7 you will suddenly come across your own name and it will be pretty awesome! (We reserve the right to reject a name if we find it offensive or otherwise inappropriate; in the unlikely event of this happening we will refund your pledge.)

$500: ALIEN OVERLORD: Become immortalized in the acknowledgments section of UFO7 + receive one of each of the 14 UFO titles as well as THE CACKLE OF CTHULHU, HUMANITY 2.0, and a custom USB flash drive filled with digital goodies. You will also receive a random tuckerization from the FLEET ADMIRAL reward tier.
Add-Ons (for US backers):
Add-ons are extra items backers can add to their pledge level. They're not available as regular rewards because of their limited quantity, because UFO Publishing does not have rights to distribute e-book versions of them, and for other reasons. Because of very high overseas shipping costs, these are being made available to US-based backers. If you're outside of the US and you really want one of these, please contact me and we'll figure out what we can do.
How to receive an add-on: Increase your pledge level for any item by the value of the add-on or add-ons you want and send us a message through Kickstarter to let us know which item you're getting. We'll confirm with you before we ship. For example, if you pledge at the LITTLE GREEN READER tier but also want a copy of THE CACKLE OF CTHULHU, add $20 to your pledge.
The Cackle of Cthulhu anthology paperback signed by Alex Shvartsman - $20
Humanity 2.0 anthology signed by Alex Shvartsman - $20
Explaining Cthulhu to Grandma audio book, loaded onto your choice of 8 GB custom USB flash drive or a CD - $20
