We are so excited about our 2017 | 2018 season! Featuring three main stage events, this is our most ambitious season ever. As always, the shows will be great presented in English in intimate, theater-forward setting and crisp Raylynmor style.
In Fall 2017, we kick off the season with a whimsical and family friendly double bill of Bon Appétit! by Lee Hoiby and Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck. Two kids fall asleep watching America's "French Chef" Julia Child bake a tasty chocolate cake. They dream the fairytale, Hansel and Gretel, and delicious hilarity ensues when Julia Child reappears as the witch bent on turning the children into gingerbread. Filled with tunes, laughter and yummy surprises, these operas will be the can't-miss events of the Monadnock Region's fall classical music calendar.
Puccini's landmark masterpiece, Madame Butterfly, appears in the repertoire for the first time in Raylynmor's history. Based on an American play by David Belasco, Madame Butterfly tells the story of a geisha who marries an American naval officer. Unbeknownst to Butterfly, the groom considers the wedding a sham and is waiting to return to the United States to find a "true American wife." Raylynmor is deconstructing this heartbreaking opera and setting the plot in a theater company in which art truly reflects life. This unique perspective on this piece, complete with a brand new English libretto, will prove to be a fascinating night of music and theater. You won't want to miss this performance at Peterborough Players in late Winter 2018.
The final performance of our season will be a concert version of Gilbert and Sullivan's hilarious operetta, Iolanthe. This charming piece tells the story of a fairy who is cast out of her society when she married a mortal. Join us for a fun-filled romp through Raylynmor's long-standing tradition of presentations of the Savoy canon! You will see faces you know and be a part of the intimate and festive atmosphere.
Risks and challenges
