Prossime stazioni: Kyrgyzstan, Kazakistan, Cina, Sud Korea, Vietnam.

(ENGLISH VERSION)

LOOKING FOR THE COUNTER-SOCIETY, A CYCLING JOURNEY

If you want good music, maybe it's better to select it yourself than listen to the radio. If you want healthy food, maybe it's better to grow it in your own backyard. If you want honest information, maybe it’s better to seek truth from sources other than mainstream news and television.
Likewise, if you want a better life, you need to look for it rather than trusting that the government and institutions will propose and promote it. They promote an unsustainable economic growth that only supports their own interests. They do not care if we are constantly struggling against each other, divided by ideologies that require unconditional assent. The institutions expect that we remain blind and faithful to the party line.
But if we are inspired to seek a better life, brick by brick, we will dismantle the wall that separates us from those indispensable islands of resisting, fraternal, and rebellious societies that operate all over the world.

On December 4th, 2018, I began a long cycling journey from El Salvador, through Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, the United States and Canada.
The aim has been to visit a number of counter-societies and gain a greater appreciation for permaculture communities, co-housing systems, intentional communities, and eco-villages.

I chose the bicycle as my means of transportation because it leaves no impact on the environment. On this journey, it has allowed me to have independence and autonomy. Furthermore, the bicycle allows me to connect more closely with my hosts, as they can’t help but feel deep empathy when I ride up with my house on two wheels, tired and sincere. The bicycle is the key that opens my hosts hearts and their increases their willingness to share their stories.

The search for the counter-society has led to extraordinary meetings and it cannot stop now. After more than 13,000 km cycling across high mountains, arid deserts, green forests, and through pouring rain, stifling heat, and stinging snow, my faithful traveling companion needs a makeover.

I would be so grateful to anyone who is willing to help me with the expenses of the plane tickets (Canada-Kirghizistan), visas and bicycle spare parts. Please check out the crowd founding campaign!

Next stations: Kyrgyzstan, Kazakistan, China, South Korea, Vietnam.

Risks and challenges

I am aware that the challenge I'm going to face will be tough in any sense, but I am ready to it as I already prove it to myself in the past six months and through all this years.
It's not only about the physical effort, it's not only a matter of training on the bike and being ready to camp avoiding any sort of hotels. It's about gaining and keeping a positive and connected state of mind.
