So i've been making music as Yellow Ostrich for about a year and a half now. I've released quite a lot of stuff, and I know it may be overwhelming. I really appreciate all the feedback I've been getting from you guys though, it's been amazing.
For the past year or so I've been working on one album called The Mistress. I've released many other things while working on this album, but this has been the one I've kept coming back to. It's easily the longest time I've ever spent on one album. That says nothing of its value to the listener, of course, but I will leave that up to you. I've labored over it for months, and I'm actually pretty happy with how it turned out. It's the first album to feature musicians other than myself. I got some friends to play drums and guitars and bass here and there. Most of it is still just me, but there's some nice touches here and there that I couldn't have done otherwise.
Michael and I have been playing a lot of these songs live, and so I thought now would be a good time to put it out. As of now, you can go here and download the entire thing: www.yellowostrich.bandcamp.com . You can download the album for pay-what-you-want.
After spending so much time on this album, I really want to give it a proper release, and so I would love to print it on vinyl. Because vinyl is awesome. I mean, seriously. When was the last time you held a CD lovingly in your hands, enjoying the aromas of the...plastic, and gazing at the rather small artwork? With vinyl you've got this huge thing so that you can see the artwork in the way it was meant to be seen. It smells really nice. It sounds better than a CD. You get to sit down and spend time listening to something instead of putting it on in the background while you reject your aunt's friend request on facebook. I could go on and on about how awesome vinyl is, but you've probably already got a good idea.
But it's very expensive. So I thought maybe I'd see if we could raise the funds ourselves, rather than waiting a while to try and put it out on a label. Therefore, we have started a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to print The Mistress on vinyl. Think of it as a pre-order rather than a donation: if you pledge 15 dollars (you don't actually get charged unless we raise the full amount), we'll send you the record once we get it. We're only going to print 250-300 of these so they will be a rare commodity. If you give more money, you'll get more cool things like Yellow Ostrich t-shirts and Yellow Ostrich posters. And the most generous fans will get a very exclusive lyric hanging of a song of their choice from the album.
I know money is tight these days; even I've had to cut down on the quality of peanut butter I get - no more of this "super chunky" stuff, it gets pricey. But if you have a few dollars to spare, I think you will be satisfied with the LP, and I would be eternally grateful to you.
