We love our iPhone; we need our iPhone and we travel a lot. The result? High roaming fees. The worse of which was when one of us had to pay USD2,000 for five days in the US because data roaming was ON. Pretty ridiculous as it was almost the cost of the trip. Back at home, we use two SIMs: one for personal use, and one for work. Refusing to switch to a Dual Sim Android phone, our way around it for the past years was to carry two phones, which can turn into quite a burden, remembering to take them both and have them charged. That’s when it hit us.
What if we could extend our own phone’s capabilities to meet our needs? What if our own iPhone could do more? The result was the Krimston TWO. A marriage between a beautifully designed phone case and an application, which has:
• Two simultaneous GSM lines
• Synced contacts for both SIMS
• Hotspot to keep you connected (using the 3G of the SIM in cover)
• And extra battery life, for when your phone is dying…
HOW IT WORKS - THREE SIMPLE STEPS
1. Buy TWO
2. Insert your second SIM
3. Download our app
Congratulations! You have just dual-simmed your own phone.
A promise: we told you ALMOST all of our features, there will a few extras to be discovered once you own one. Where’s the fun in disclosing everything!
Two years in the making
o Idea (August 2013)
o Conceptual prototype / Business plan (February 2014)
o Angel round of USD400K (November 2014)
o Industrial Design from Silicon Valley (March 2015)
o Alpha prototype (July 2015)
o Precertification tests (August 2015)
o Beta prototype (Jan 2016)
o Seed round of USD400K (Feb 2016)
o Design for manufacturing / Tooling In progress
This means that since we are getting ready for mass production, we made sure to secure an extra round of USD400k to cover the tooling costs so that we can bring to life the orders that would come from this campaign. So you don’t have to wait years to have the Krimston Two in your pocket. We are asking to raise USD100k and find early adopters from across the globe, gain valuable feedback, and listen to your requests to help with future development. And last but not least, our product is expected to sell online at USD199 (excluding shipping costs) once it hits the market (November 2016). Since we appreciate your support and value your money, we’re offering it now at USD159 (early birds) and USD179 with delivery in August!!! As for the iPhone 6+/6+S, we had to start with the smaller form factor as the R&D was much more challenging. Now that it’s done, making it bigger won’t take us long. Thank you for your support! Together, let’s take our phones the extra mile…
Risks and challenges
MFi The made for iPhone certification
Hardware engineering is always tricky, so imagine what it’s like to develop Apple compatible hardware. We made sure to register to the MFi development program and the iOS developer program where all our engineering fell under Apple guidelines. Nothing was breached (harder than it sounds), and we are finalizing the production agreement with a worldwide MFi certified manufacturer. The last piece of the puzzle that will remain: send Apple the final product for certification.
We strategically partnered up with professionals that already brought products to the market making sure not to miss any step that might threaten our project.
As for the timelines, although they were studied and provided by the manufacturer, the supply chain might affect the flow. While we’re confident that no delay will happen, we’ll make sure to inform you in case an unpredicted event happens.
We’ll do our best to keep these as low as possible by teaming up with professional logistics companies but, since demography will vary, we will ask you to contribute.
Duties, fees and taxes added by your different governments is also something you’ll need to take care of.
It’s true that TWO is an accessory, but, with its hardware components and advanced engineering, we can proudly say that it’s a phone without a screen. This imposes certifications such as FCC, CE, wifi, etc. However, precertification tests have been acquired since our alpha prototype was out making sure that our product falls under the worldwide regulations. Having the precertification certificates will allow us to expedite the certification process.
Our timelines are carefully studied based on 5000 unit orders. In anticipation we get the 1’000’000 unit order (which we hope we will), we are dealing with one of the best worldwide manufacturers guaranteeing fast production chain ramp up. But since we’re fair, the policy of first come first served will apply.
