Have a question?
@ Manuel yes you need to cover the apple or be completely off the apple...instructions that were included explain this and the cleaning. Glad you are happy!
@Juan Thanks I am glad you like it!
It's here!!! Finally my mom's XFLEXs is at home. Really nice product. Thanks from Colombia!
Just like people here, I also love this product. I use it everyday! Just a word of warning about dropping, make sure to follow the directions and CLEAN the suction cup after every use. I notice mine loses its stickiness, specially with the back getting dirty from normal use. My iPad got dropped while in the treadmill, luckily I caught it while running, but it now has a small dent. So don't be lazy, and make sure to clean it.
Also, I notice that if you don't position the cup dead-center with the Apple logo, you can run into suction problems. The Apple logo doesn't provide a flat surface for suction.
Overall, I'm happy with the product and the fastest delivery time of any Kickstarter. Great Job!
@solun I am glad you are "very happy". We are going to offer a more flexible arm through our website. This arm will come standard on a XFLEXjr for smaller tablets and eReaders. The standard arm for the XFLEX needs to be rigid for some applications like car.
@Anant as mentioned we are working on more flexible arms and longer ones. They will be available through our web site http://xflexstand.com/
@Nani the suction cup needs to be applied to a hard flat surface. Let me know how your fix works. I can send you a plastic disc that you can put on your case that will work as well.
Having now used the xflex for over a week, I can say the following:
I'm very happy with what it can do, which is as advertised. It holds my iPad very tight in its case, maybe too tight as it takes a lot of effort to release (but I'll take too tight over loose any day).
I agree with Anant that a slightly longer more flexible arm would have made it even better. And the ablility to rotate the iPad without removing would be helpful, there are times when I can't quite bend the arm the right way for the iPad to sit level.
Anant: sorry didn't see your question till now but I guess you found a case that works... In any case, I had bought my case off eBay so long ago. No brand on it but its mostly smooth with a leather feel to it. The xflex suction cup actually sticks to it very well.
For everyone else, always test to make sure that whatever case you're using is compatible. I left my iPad on the xflex over my bed overnight and then tried to remove it in the morning. It holds extremely tight for me.
George love this product. But a few suggestions I would like to give you.
1. Longer, less stiffer arm. After a full evening and night use, trying it in many positions, still very hard to move the arm.
2. There is another project currently going on on Kickstarter like this for a stand to hold your tablets. Their suction cup can rotate the tablet between landscape and portrait mode. That would be so if you could do that in the future arms you create. Also I believe their finish over the arms is a rubber suede like material that feels really nice. Would be great if you could offer this in a future arm.
Nani: I am having the opposite trouble with my mini ipad using a plastic hard shell case from Poetic I bought off Amazon. It is so difficult to get it removed from the suction cup to rotate the iPAD.
The Xflex is as beautiful and elegant as I expected. This solves my problem of holding my iPad mini then dropping it when I nod off to sleep, because I can't put it away and just go to sleep on time like a normal person! It would be great if it would rotate 90 degrees without having to remove and reposition the iPad, maybe in a future version? I am also happy that the Xflex also serves as a tripod, so now I can make some instructional You Tubes and SnapGuides.
I have recently encountered problems with the suction cup releasing unexpectedly and my mini dropping to the floor (about a 4' drop). I have a smooth, hard back case, with a slight rubberized feel. I do not want to remove the case each time. I am going to put a square of clear packing tape on the back of the case and try that out for a few days. I will let you know the results next week!
Thanks Anant...we are working on some finishes that will eliminate that. I am glad your are overall pleased. Happy XFLEXing
We are going to offer more flexible arms very soon. The arm we have needs to be somewhat rigid for all the applications.
The flex arm got warmer and feels great to bend. GREAT JOB GEORGE!
Just got my XFLEX. testing it out right now. Feels sturdy and I feel confident with my expensive iPad being held up by it. Only complaint right now is that it seems kind of difficult to bend the arm, but that might be just because it was in a cold delivery truck then on my doorstep. I'll make another comment once it warms up. But bending it now after its gotten a little warmer already feels easier to bend. Is there any way for you to add me to an email list for when or if you do another project?
Just received mine at work today. Can't wait to try it at home tonight especially in bed. Initial thoughts are its a very well made product and feels solid. Only disappointment so far is there are some very visible scratches on the metal part of the base. I like my gadgets to be shiny and new looking the first time I get it which is why I never buy refurbished items. Takes away that excitement I get. But overall very well pleased so far and definitely the fastest project to ever deliver. I will back any other future projects you create George. Thanks very much!
I also got my order... And it passed the BiteMyApple approval... It's nice and strong, not cheap looking at all... Good job... You know that I'm a retailer and I need to order more... ;-)
Solun what type of case are you using that it is working with the xflex? I would like to purchase one before my xflex gets here. Thanks.
Just got the USPS mail. FASTEST FULFILLMENT EVER!!!!!
Awesome. I am so glad you are pleased.
Got mine today and using it in bed as I type this. Trying the suction cup on my case and was pleasantly surprised that it is holding. Was worry that I would've had to remove my iPad from the case. Great job George!
JUst RECIEVED IN MAIL TODAY my Two new XFLEX one for me and one for me MAMA!
Great work! ill use and let you know my thoughts. SOOOOOO FAST! TYTYTYTY
Yes Micah! We are wrapping up the Early Birds (the first 150) and you guys are next!
I just got an email for the survey. Does this mean you're going to be shipping soon? Because that would be amazing! Top notch work, I've been waiting for a Kickstarter that was forecasted for shipment in August. This is a pleaser surprise.
Thank you Lynn. That is the beauty of the XFLEX it goes virtually anywhere. I can't wait to hear where you use it.
Congratulations George! I have to say that your video is top notch. It really showed the versatility of XFLEX. It introduced ways that I could use it in my life that I had not thought of before. Your survey asked about what you could improve. I wanted to mention what was great. Thank you for a great product. I can't wait to get it!
Many thanks Chris and to all the supporters. We are excited at 1.0 Innovations :)
Congratulations again George...
Laser cutting will make undesirable thermal damage to the aluminum and the amount of energy required to make a nice cutting edge for that thick of an aluminum sheet would be quite large. If your demand increases high enough, I would suggest doing waterjet or abrasive waterjet and add a finishing process to get the desired quality.
Very excited for my XFLEX, if I had any friends that had tablets I would be screaming at them to get one because it looks like exactly what tablet owners need.
I don't mean to give too many suggestions, but I love the idea of being able to talk to the designer. But I think a modification to the flexible arm that would be very nice would be a sort of conduit along the side of it to allow for a charging cable to run down to allow for your device to charge without worrying about getting tangled when moving the arm around.
I have look at waterjet (much more efficient but does not leave the quality edge I demand). I have considered laser but I have not made a full evaluation. I will send you a message.
Thank you Stephan I am glad your are excited!
George really a great product , just a question have you ever compared laser cutting vs the mill? cost we do laser cutting it may be better or less competive . i could have my estimater look at it price wise looking to my XFLEX
I just backed this product from Germany because I've been looking for such a gadget for a while now and finally found it!!! I'm soooo thrilled about receiving it soon that I can hardly wait till February!!! ;-)
Thanks Byron. We appreciate you.
George, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm glad you were able to reach your goal. It's great to see another fine product built here in the great U.S.A. I look forward to using the product and hopefully I can send more sales your way!
THANK YOU EVERYONE!
Yes February! Our intent is to exceed expectations not just meet them.
Despite the fact that it takes two weeks to receive funds, as the project was nearing its goal, I accepted the risk and personally funded the material buy. We are in full production as we speak....as I type I can hear the CNC vertical mill shaping aluminum in the background. I will post some pics in the update.
O M G just one more sale, then this project is a go !
Come on people spread the word !
Is february still the delivery date ? This is soooo close.
Thank you everyone for your support and comments! We are chomping at the bit to get the XFLEX in your hands! George
Thank you Chris! And yes the XFLEX works with flat surface smartphones (and most cases) like the iphone.
The XFLEX also works for Smartphones like the iPhone?
3.5K more and it's a go......
We believe, like Steve Jobs, the world is going tablet. Therefore, we need a solution for every application. The original XFLEX covers quite bit.
However, we are working on several designs, additional accessories, and modifications. We are considering two versions of that prototype...one with holes (like you saw) and one with very strong magnets for industrial applications.
We are also working on different bases that will work with our quick connect arm. For example, a very small female base that could be permanently attached to a school desk or headboard (Lynn). So you would always have your base but you could small (low cost) permanent mount in various locations which you could just slide your arm into.
I noticed in your video there was an interesting modification to the original design that I have seen. while in your workshop, in the background it appears there is an XFLEX with holes drilled through it and pegs that were mounted on your workbench to allow the XFLEX to easily mount onto the it. Is that a modification and accessory variant that we will see in the future? because, I think that would be something nice, could be a solution to Lynn Iwamoto problem with iPad falling on the face.
We are working on some more solutions with longer arms. We try to keep everyone up to date on our facebook page about new products http://www.facebook.com/XFLEXtabletstand
Would it be possible to get a longer snake arm?
Thanks Chris...indeed tweet and share away! We need everyone's help :)
8K to go guys with only 6 more days... So tweet away if you want to see the XFLEX make that funding....
Yes, it will be possible to buy one Internationally if the project is not funded.
Will it be possible to buy a XFLEX internationally when the project is not funded?
