You charge your phone at least once a day, but the cables you have grown accustomed to are far from perfect. Regular cables are made of cheap rubber that over time rip and fray at the ends, exposing the wires and damaging the cable. They coil into a mess, are dull, and look just like everybody else’s.
We are here to give something you deserve: Esbee Cables
Esbee Cables are luxurious and durable smartphone leather charging cables. All cables are handmade and stitched by skilled craftsmen with 100% natural leather. The cables are meant to last – you can pull and tug all day long, but Esbee Cables will never rip. The thick 24 AWG power wire – 60% thicker than regular power wires – enable fast phone charging, and the brass buckle belt allows you to neatly coil your Esbee Cable so that it’s never left in a tangled mess. Lastly, the color options in both classic hide leather and vibrant suede allow for a unique touch and personalization.
Esbee Cables are different. They are unique and will certainly match your personality.
One of the most important features of our cable is its unrivaled strength. Esbee Cables are not just the best looking cables in the market, they are also the most durable. Don't believe us? If your car breaks down and you don't have a towing cable, put your Esbee Cable to work just as I did in the following video.
We started off by first focusing on tackling the existing problem of cables fraying at the ends. Our initial plan was to leather-coat them so as to provide additional reinforcement to the terminal ends. However, the more we worked with the cables, the less we liked them, so we decided to start from scratch and completely redesign the cable from the inside out.
First, we searched for the best-quality charging components. After weeks of hunting, we locked down a manufacturing facility in the city of Dongguan, China. Since we were to coat the whole cable in leather anyways, the aesthetics of the cable were unimportant. We simply wanted to have the TOUGHEST cable. We came up with tin plated copper wires, MFI certified C48B connectors and TPE plugs with 10mm reinforced SR.
Usually at this point, people are all set to sell the cables, but we were only halfway through. We asked factories in China to leather-coat our cables, but the results were unsatisfying. Thin, artificial leather didn't make the cables look like what we wanted. We realized that the leather part of the project needed finer craftsmanship.
We packed up in China to land in Pakistan. With over 800 tanneries, Pakistan is one of the largest leather producing nations. The artisans of Pakistan have had a long and accomplished history with leather craftsmanship, dating back to the Indus Valley civilization. From this point on we made hundreds of cables just to convince ourselves and others that we were ready to move ahead.
We have collaborated with an expert cable manufacturing company with over 16 years of experience. Our strong Quality Control procedure ensures every single cable - whether Lightning or Micro USB passes more than 3 QC tests. Tests include: Apple ATS test, Voltage drop test, Real iPhone test, Semi-finished conducting test, Finished item conducting test and Bending test.
We are predicting a large number of orders off this campaign and have fulfillment centers prepared to deliver. The fulfillment method we choose depends on the backer strength/total number of orders, but regardless of how we decide to distribute, we promise that every backer will receive their cables in time for Christmas 2015!
Hi, my name is Moazzam. I’ve always had a passion for creating new things but it wasn’t until my time at Santa Barbara that I learned about entrepreneurship. I obtained my degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara, a beautiful beach town where the sun always shines, nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Santa Ynez Mountains. I met people whom I believe to be among the world’s happiest, kindest, and of course, stylish. It was also in Santa Barbara where I met my current project teammates.
These days it's hard to find a good product at a good price. Either you end up buying a cheap inferior product that only lasts a few months or you pay a luxury price for a decent product. We at Esbee, by cutting down the retail profit margins, strive to deliver quality products at a price that everybody can afford.
Risks and challenges
The biggest hurdle with every product designed to work with Apple devices is obtaining MFi (made for iPhone) certification from Apple Inc. We were already ahead of most new product campaigns as we had applied for MFi certification well in advance. On August 20, 2015, we officially overcame our biggest hurdle. Our series of evaluations by Apple laboratories was complete and we successfully obtained MFi certification, meaning our Esbee Cables in Lightning are guaranteed to work compatibly with Apple devices.
Secondly, despite our confidence that production and delivery will run seamlessly, there is always the small possibility that things could get delayed. For instance, the chip that goes in our Lightning connector comes from Apple Inc, meaning that Apple is partially controlling our production timeline.
Regardless of the obstacles we face, we promise to keep our whole project transparent. If something unexpected happens, you’ll be the first to hear about it. We will always keep communication open with our backers, whether it’s to address an issue or to share a new update.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
