I'm Monica, an illustrator/artist based in Austin, TX.
If you've met me on Kickstarter, or at a show, you probably know I've been turning my pen and ink artwork into engraved pieces you can wear. I call the line Tell a Tale, Illustrated Jewelry. Take a peek at my previous campaigns and you can see all the animal designs!
In the past few months I've been busy with a project to do some smaller pieces -- little scatter pins for ties and lapels. I've also experimented with a little puppetry, and because many people asked, finally, finished a SQUIRREL design!
With so many ideas, I struggled with whether to try to Kickstart them now, or after the holidays -- and the compromise I came up with was to plug in as much of my materials money as I could for prototyping and try to offer some quickly now in the hope of funding a full production run in January.
By supporting this campaign, you'll help me continue and expand Tell a Tale with new designs into 2016.
So what's new?
Pins! Lapel pins, scatter pins, tie tacks...
Wings! That move!
Oh, and SQUIRREL!
I will add some altogether pictures as quick as I can, but in the meantime...
Some notes about delivery times and add ons:
On the previous Tell a Tale campaigns, I had lots of backers who wanted more than one design — which was and is awesome! However, I’m doing this one quickly, right before the holidays… um, and the company that does the painted wood CANNOT get me more before Dec. Which means I’m using up what I have and this time some rewards are limited if you want them in time for Santa. (Or Krampus or anyone else you leave milk and donuts for.)
To help with this, I’ve made TWO sets of delivery dates for each reward: Dec 2015 (limited) and Feb 2016 (unlimited! hurray!)
Can you add to a reward? YES. Of course you can! But please understand that there is no way for me to cover all possibilities of reward options on the limited pieces being delivered in Dec. I’ve done my best to take an honest look at my materials on hand and the response to my previous campaigns and make an educated guess that what I’m offering can meet popular demand even with some mix 'n' matching. (But there's always a chance one design is crazy popular or more people than before discover the campaign, and I only have so many hands and hours.) So if you like more than one thing, totally add to your reward! The campaign is only 14 days — how big of a mess can we make, right? Seriously though, just keep in mind that there is a possibility any add-on items might be delivered in Feb.
How to add an item? Just increase your reward for each item and there will be a spot on the survey to list add-ons.
- Pins - increase by $8 per pin
- Wings, plain alder - increase by $25
- Black or White wings - increase by $28
- Bronze wings - increase by $33
- Squirrel - increase by $26
I put this together really quick, so if I missed something or you have a question, let me know! I'll post all as a FAQ.
Thank you so much for checking out and sharing my campaign!
Risks and challenges
I've successfully run and delivered physical rewards on time for three complex Kickstarter projects: The Stolen Child Tarot, The Magician's Cat children's ebook, and The Magician's Cat print edition, as well as four smaller projects to develop my illustrated jewelry line, Tell a Tale.
For this project my artwork and design are complete and have been prototyped. My budget on production and rewards delivery is based on my experience with my previous jewelry projects and pricing with my laser cutting service. Should any unforeseen delays happen (design correction, back orders of materials...) I promise to keep backers up to date.
The Kickstarter community has allowed me to do some amazing things as an independent artist and I take my commitment to you very seriously.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
