This project started over 2 years ago when a friend asked me if I had ever thought about making an Appalachian Trail game. (He happened to be on the Board of Directors of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and started the A.T. License Plate Program.) I am a teacher, educational game designer, Eagle Scout, parent and avid hiker, so this seemed like a GREAT idea! Months later, I was hiking on the A.T. from Max Patch to Hot Springs when I came upon a shelter that had been completely trashed! After my initial reaction of frustration, I cleaned up the site and packed the trash out. As I was hiking I realized that I took for granted the low impact camping skills that I was taught in scouts. I opened my trail map and the idea flooded in all at once! What if I created an educational game that taught best practices while hiking and fostered an appreciation of the Great Outdoors? And what if it was so FUN that kids wanted to play with their families and friends!?! This is exactly what we have done.
I applied for a small ATC grant to do the initial design of the game and over the last 2 years I have worked with an amazing team to design and produce the prototype. HUGE thanks to everyone at the ATC for all their help! Our feedback from test groups has been overwhelmingly positive. Kids LOVE this game! We are now excited to bring this to Kickstarter to produce and hopefully EXPAND the game so that we can share it with classrooms, scout troops, youth groups, hikers and families everywhere! We want to make games that inspire people to step outside and have their own adventure!
Get a copy of the game for yourself, or generously support our efforts to educate kids about the Appalachian Trail.
Games will be produced and shipped by November...Perfect for Holiday Gifts!

Risks and challenges
As with all Kickstarter projects, there are challenges that can occur during production that can cause delays with the delivery of rewards. As an Eagle Scout, being prepared is always on my mind. We have assembled the A-Team to work on this project and we have done our homework. As soon as we have the funding, our team is ready to manufacture the games. We have also given ourselves plenty of time for production and we hope to ship them SOONER than expected. Scout's Honor!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
