Competitive - Even though our bicycle is priced less than the competitors, we are able to provide all the same benefits as other leading brands. There is no compromise in performance, only price!
Affordable - What good is an electric bicycle if it is not affordable? Not only are our bicycles priced for the average consumer, they practically pay for themselves as you ride them!
Powerful - Professional cyclists are able to sustain 350W of power for approximately an hour, the same amount of power our Ride Scoozy 'Original' can generate! Want even more power? Our 'Heavy Duty' edition can generate 500W of power for the ultra-commuter!
Comfortable - Unlike other e-bikes, Ride Scoozy bicycles come from the factory with ergonomic grips for the increased pressure placed on your hands - a need for all electric bicycles. For the ultra-commuter we also provide e-bike specific saddles with our 'Heavy Duty' edition.
Simple - Single speed, low maintenance. Simply press the throttle and you are on your way! If you happen to run out of power or want to get a little extra exercise too, feel free to pedal away as normal!
Smart – No urban commuter is complete without cruise control. Let your hands relax and enjoy the ride while your Scoozy maintains your speed. Once you Scoozy, you will never want to ride another electric bike!
Frame - The foundation of the Ride Scoozy electric bicycle is a high quality Chromoly Steel Single speed frame that we have custom designed to provide the perfect balance between comfort and performance. A single speed frame was chosen for its style and simplicity while CrMo steel was chosen for its great ride quality.
Motor - A direct drive brushless hub motor will propel your Scoozy quietly up to 18mph for the 'Original' edition and the USDOT regulated 20mph limit for the 'Heavy Duty' edition. Unlike other hub-based motors, ours do not require an external controller, include an integrated weatherproof wiring harness, and are more robust than 'geared' hub motors.
Battery - Containing 1/900th the energy needed to send the time machine back to the future, our batteries will keep your Scoozy running for 20 to 25 miles before needing to be recharged! Our batteries also use top of the line Samsung Li-On cells just like your laptop!
Components - Every component on your Scoozy has been personally selected after thorough at-home competitive testing. We have chosen components that will meet your expectations, but not exceed your budget.
Safety - Your Ride Scoozy bicycle has also been designed with safety in mind. Your brake levers will de-activate the throttle and cruise control while our double-walled 700c wheels will provide increased strength and handling.
Security - To keep your battery safe, a locking mechanism will keep your battery securely stowed while you are away from your bicycle. Our batteries are also serialized removing the motive to steal them in the first place. There have also been many great bicycle security related projects on Kickstarter that would work great with your Scoozy!
To keep costs down and maintain the quality standard we require, all bicycles will be assembled and tested locally in our 2000 sq ft pole barn outside Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Depending on order volume, we will be able to provide more sizes. Currently we have developed 'Medium' and 'Large' frame sizes.

As with many other projects, to keep the price down to an affordable level I need to order the components in large quantities. I have already invested money myself designing the CrMo frameset and ordering samples of a whole array of components for competitive testing. Now that everything has been selected and the frame is ready to produce with your help we can make Ride Scoozy a reality.
As a mechanical engineer, I have been building and tinkering with things my whole life. What started with Legos, moved to Ford Mustangs when I turned 16, has now found electric bicycles. After dealing with Southern California traffic for a few years I knew there had to be another way to get around town for short commutes without getting sweaty.
After researching the market, an electric bicycle with all of the features I was looking for that was within my price range did not seem to exist, so I began building my own electric bicycle in my garage. The year was 2012.
The project began with an electric scooter/bicycle hybrid. Something simple that only entailed the necessities of travel - Frame, Motor, Battery.
The initial design was a success, albeit not that aesthetic with all the wires and cables. Initial testing was promising and the first prototype had a top speed of 28mph and a range of 27 miles!
After a few hundred miles of riding, the inability to pedal home in case the battery ran dead in the middle of a ride became more worrisome. A second iteration was envisioned with only the necessities of travel - Frame, Motor, Battery, Pedals.
The second prototype was also a success, and much better looking too! The bike was simple, easy to use, and handled great. The only negative was its top speed was limited to 16mph with the updated gearing. To be a viable commuting alternative, 18-20mph was a necessity.
The third iteration had a maximum unassisted speed of 20 mph, a 20-25 mile range, and was simple enough for just about anyone to operate... and Ride Scoozy was created!
Along the way, I also tested various brake levers, handlebars, saddles, tires, grips, throttles, and frame geometries. Ride Scoozy encompasses everything I learned throughout the journey and am proud to offer you.

As with any new product there is the potential for any number of problems. As a mechanical engineer I have been solving problems for many years and am confident I will be able to provide you with a quality product and tackle any setbacks.

The bicycle runs on a 36V, 10.4Ah battery which provides more torque than 24V and is more efficient than 48V.
The bicycle does not include a traditional pedal-assist system that uses a crank sensor, however, the cruise control function allows you to more precisely set the motor assistance.
This method also maintains power when you take short breaks from pedaling and can be turned off by pressing the cruise control button again or with a quick tap of the brakes.
Without pedaling, significantly more pressure is placed on the handlebars and saddle. Without these features long commutes would become more uncomfortable.
