Tried contacting for over a year, no response, 26 bucks for a rubber band :(

    2. Brett Martin on October 9, 2013

I installed mine as soon as I got it on my Canon 50mm 1.4. It only took about two or three weeks to start pealing away from the lens, which I cleaned with alcohol etc for a good stick. The first time attaching the lens was rough and I left it on for a few days. It got easier to attach after that but still tough. Finally as it started pealing away from the lens more than 1/4" on one side it prevented me from attaching the lens in the middle of a shoot! It took me about 5 seconds to figure out what was going on and then RIP it off my lens. Good idea, but in practice I dont think its going to work in the current implementation.

Unfortunately out of all the possible lenses I could put a Dust Donut on, and for those listed as lenses that would accept a Dust Donut on I only have:
Canon 85mm f/1.2L USM II - Fits the lens, but you can't twist the lens onto the camera as the rubber is too thick. Donut not fitted now.
Canon 15mm fisheye - Fits the lens, but can easily rolls off if you grab the lens close to the donut. Lucky I have a spare 12 of them after friends pulled out on their share after hearing how I was going with mine :S
Canon 35mm f/1.4L USM - So far the only lens that has taken the Dust Donut great without too much trouble.

      PM sent.

Tyler: I have to report that unfortunatelly my experience is much like that of Tom Mayor.
I received 2 Dust Donuts and after I successfully installed 1st on my 85mm f/1.8, I have to inform you that the adhesive is not sticking to the donut, it simply wears off. I will try to use the rubber band without the adhesive.
It is a shame, it seemed to be a great project.

If anyone needs more, please contact me on:-

Sorry to say but the adhesive started to come away from the dust donut as I was applying it (canon 100-400). It got worse as I tried to 'save' it and not half doesn't have the adhesive on anymore. :-(

Just got mine, really nice! Small update for your Third Party Lens Compatibility List: It won't fit on the new 2013 Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC HSM | A, the mounting is less than 1mm. Bye bye.

Has anybody had any luck installing on the EF70-200 4.0 L (non-IS)

I installed one fine on my EF28-135, but the metal lip on the 70-200 is much thinner and I can't get the ring to stay in place.

Accept my humble apologies for jumping the gun. I didn't see that there was a Updates page.
Sadly I've still missed the day it was needed at the end of May but I'm glad to see that there were indeed updates.

This was supposed to be delivered last month. Disappointed and does your nor Kickstarter's credibilty any good whatsoever.
You really should keep in touch with people who are putting their hard earned cash upfront.
Shows an amateurish attitude and not what I expected. Will think twice before I back another Kickstarter project.

Jesse & Baback - Yes because I already had backers at the $20 level Kickstarter would not allow me to change the pledge information but I have kept my own records of who has increased their pledges to take advantage of the increase offer so I will be certain to ship out the correct increased amount of Dust Donuts. Thank you for your support!

      Tyler –

First off, thank you for all of your efforts with this project, and kudos to you for coming up with such a great idea.

With that said, I wanted to confirm my participation in your "increase their pledge by 50%" offer. I am an Early Bird supporter, so I increased my pledge from $15 to $22.50. Is this correct, and will your offer still be honored at this pledge level?

I've read through the comments, and through the updates as well but never saw a mention of the Early Bird supporters. Please confirm at your earliest convenience.

Thanks again, and congratulations on meeting your funding goal times nearly 1,000%. :-)

ok then, lets say i put in 60 and the project does not met the stretch goal, then i got only 3?

    30. Tyler Sterbentz Creator on February 20, 2013

Nicander- A $40 dollar pledge with get you two Dust Donuts as those are the current rates. if we can not reach stretch goal the $20 price will remain.

Ben- I apologize and I understand your complaint. I very much appreciate your support. The increase pledge offer is an incentive to help raise additional funds necessary to place an order with my manufacturer high enough in quantity to secure the Dust Donuts for a lower overall price as in manufacturing prices go down as quantities go up. The discount is merely a bonus offer made available to all backers who wish to receive more Dust Donuts than they originally ordered at a discount in order to provide further support towards reaching the stretch goal. These lower prices cannot be achieved unless the project manages to break through this lower pricing threshold(stretch goal) so the discount is reserved for those who wish to make an additional preorder. I am very sorry if this is not satisfactory and I sincerely hope that I can retain your support as a backer. Thank you

I'm not very happy with your "increase their pledge by 50%" offer. What if I pledged enough for every lens I own that is not already weather sealed and have zero desire to increase my pledge? Are you telling me that I could have pledged less initially as if to get fewer dust donuts and then upped my pledge and ended up with more dust donuts for the $$ that I'm currently going to get since I have not upped my pledge? I have pledged $60 since the beginning. If I pledged $40 at the beginning instead and upped it to $60 once you offered the "increase your pledge by 50%" offer, then would have I ended up with more? If so, why since I supported you fully from the beginning?

I have increased my pledge. I hope you will reach and surpass you new goal of $20K. I have also emailed your project to my friends.
      Best regards,

    36. Danielle on February 16, 2013

Thanks, you can add the 50mm f1.8 I to the compatibility list.

    37. Tyler Sterbentz Creator on February 15, 2013

Danielle yes that lens looks to be a perfect candidate for a Dust Donut. As far as the Dust Donut rolling up the lens you need not worry as the elasticity of the Dust Donut will keep it firmly in place. Thank you for your support!

    38. Danielle on February 15, 2013

      Hi Tyler,

Could you please have a look at this lens mount? I can easily see how a dust donut would apply on a lens of diameter greater than the mount, but this is basically the same diameter. It does pass the SD card thickness test, but I imagine the dust donut would just roll up the lens barrel.

      Great product!
I'm picking up a 85mm f/1.2L ii very soon and finding this project eliminates my top concern of that lens not having the rubber seal (shame on canon for not adding it stock on this piece of glass :p )

Backed for $30+6 (shipping to Canada)

Thanks! Can't wait to get both the lens and Dust Donut

    40. Tyler Sterbentz Creator on February 8, 2013

Bert - Thank you for your support! Yes $6 will cover shipping for any amount of Dust Donuts. That is quite a nice combination you have! One of my all time favorite lenses is the 135L and I too was baffled at why Canon would choose to not include a weather seal around its mount so after searching for a solution that I found did not exist I decided to create one myself and thus the Dust Donut was born. With the success of this campaign my dream of getting the Dust Donut into the hands of my fellow photographers across the globe is about to come true! Huge thanks to all who backed this project !

    41. BertDB on February 8, 2013

      Very nice product !
I'm glad to see this will be funded, as none of my 2 lenses (35L and 135L) have weathersealing, although I'm on a 1D3 body. Quite poor of Canon, but thank you Tyler !!
I ordered 2 (shipping outside US), so $6 only needed to be added once ? (total $46)

Keep up the good work !

    42. Tyler Sterbentz Creator on February 7, 2013

Matthew - That would be very helpful. The thickness of the mounts and the overall diameter of the mounts are the key aspects that allow the Dust Donut to fit properly, the rest of the lens has little to no effect on compatibily as the Dust Donut only interfaces with the lens exposed mount ring surface. I very much appreciate your help thank you!

    43. Matthew Vella on February 7, 2013

Done, would you need the measurements for these lens mount combos?

I beleive the Sigmas are the same and quite simple in design, but for instance the Zeiss Distagon 15mm is quite complicated

    44. Tyler Sterbentz Creator on February 5, 2013

Matthew - yes absolutely. I am planning on releasing a Nikon version that will have compatibility with the broadest amount of both Nikon and Third party lenses as possible. Development for Nikon and other versions will begin promptly after funding is received. By the summer I plan on having Dust Donuts available for all DSLR users . Thank you for your interest and support, you the backers make this all possible and I am very grateful

    45. Matthew Vella on February 5, 2013

The lenses I have for which I would love to have sealing are:

Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG HSM Art
      Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f2.8 ZF.2

    46. Matthew Vella on February 5, 2013

      Hi Tyler,

I understand that the Dust Donut is being mainly designed with Canon users in mind. However I still pledged my backing with the understanding that a design for Nikon users would follow.

Having said that, Nikon users with Nikon lenses in general do not need weather sealing, since pro-grade lenses have weather sealing at their mount.

What I am REALLY interested in is a weather seal for third party lenses on Nikon mounts, particularly Sigma and Zeiss.

In short, if you can confirm that such designs are in your intent, I am ready to further my pledge.

    47. Tyler Sterbentz Creator on February 5, 2013
