Warlocks: The Secret Behind Jason Ardac
Venessa didn't believe in anything supernatural until she met Jason— the guy that ruined her life the moment he stepped into it.
Born addicted to power, young Warlocks have more in common with ancient mythical beings than with your average teenage witch. But when "normal" high school student Venessa Summers investigates her father's death, she attracts the attention of the mysterious Jason Ardac and becomes entangled in the Dark world of the Warlocks.

Who am I, and why did I choose to launch a Kickstarter campaign?
I graduated from the University of Utah with the high hopes of obtaining an illustrious career in writing. I have since been working a day job as a recruiter and burning the midnight oil at to continue my writing obsession... I mean passion. I wish to share this passion, for both art and writing, to the world someday. And now it is time to make that wish a reality.
So far, I have self-published a novella called Warlocks: Blue Moon. It did better than I had hoped, and graced the top 20 ebooks on Amazon. But it didn't last long, and I had to continue working my full time job. This time, I have created a full-length novel based on my bestselling novella. It takes the story to new heights and can be a stand alone novel. I need the Kickstarter community to help me in order to get it professionally edited and then to market it to the world.
I have over 50 illustrations in the graphic novella, and I will update them throughout the Kickstarter campaign.
Did I do all of the artwork myself?
Yes. I ended up doing every drawing, including the cover. As part of my writing process I created a character sheet and a character sketch for each main character. I ended up with a lot of great art and I decided to create a graphic novella. If it is successful, I plan on doing more.
What do you get if you support the project?
Not only are you helping out an indie writer, and artist but there's tons of prizes in store for my Kickstarter supporters. The prizes/rewards are still in final design and production.
Early Bird reward:
Anyone who has already pledged or will pledge before June 28th, at the $10 tier or above, will get one collectible card at random. Anyone at the $50 tier or above will get five cards. If you are at $100 or above, then you will get all ten. Already pledged, but it's not enough? You can change your pledge and increase it. Why not?
This gives you the opportunity to vote on what you like and provide feedback.
I'm working on multiple designs for posters. Here is one poster that is currently available. For every $1100 we get towards the goal, I will create one more poster featuring an important aspect of the story. At the end you can pick which poster you would like.
Poster #1: **Unlocked** Poster for Warlocks Poster for Warlocks
Poster #2: **Unlocked**
Characters will be unveiled throughout the kickstarter campaign!
Poster #3: **Unlocked**
Artifacts and Abilities will be unveiled throughout the kickstarter campaign!
Help me achieve my Social goals! Follow me and tell your friends!
Poster design to be unveiled when funding reaches $2200.
If you like my art, original artwork will be available as one of the top prizes for supporters. Note: some of the copyrights and signatures are under Kelly Felsted because I recently changed my name to Kelly Mitchell. They might even be worth more that way, who knows. If you are interested in seeing more, buy a copy of the graphic novella or pledge your support. I appreciate all the help I can get.
Back cover summary:
Venessa Summers didn't believe in anything supernatural, but all that changes when she meets Jason— the guy that ruins her life the moment he steps into it. Shrouded with mystery and rumors of his rebellious past, Jason Ardac is the new popular kid at school who seems to have it in for her. But when Venessa notices something strange about the talisman that he wears, she realizes that there is much more to him than meets the eye.
Born addicted to power, Warlocks have more in common with mythical beings than with an average teenage witch. With the help of Ambrosia and the energy stored in their talismans, Warlocks can teleport, use telekinesis, and other advanced hexes. Warlocks are stuff of legends, but they are forever locked in war—like the war that threatens to engulf Earth if the Speaker of the Warlocks had his way.
When she starts to investigate her father’s death, Venessa stumbles upon the world of the Warlocks and uncovers a secret that entangles her in a complex conspiracy and a timeless struggle for power. Suddenly thrown into a new world of mind-bending, life-altering, and earth-shattering events, Venessa must determine whom she can trust. Both her life and the fate of the world rest in the balance.
What motivated me to write the story?
I wanted to write a psychologically complex, yet action-packed paranormal story that has a highly intelligent female lead and an earth-shattering twist. To do this, I started writing about an average character who meets up with another main character with questionable morals, who was born on the wrong side of a war. I won't spoil any of the details, but I will say that you should expect an epic journey and the ultimate battle between good versus evil.
Besides its main intention of being an entertaining read, this book also has many other qualities that should resonate across many age groups and cultures. Young Adult novels are important because they help adolescents sort through issues like identity and coming-of-age, or they can simply remind adults of their own journey. This book addresses issues like grief, bullying, social pressures and the resulting struggles that an ordinary teenager must put up with— even if he or she is in an extraordinary situation. The story also addresses issues like corruption, gray lines, deception, and discrimination while challenging the belief that someone is inherently bad because they are born with different characteristics and have different life experiences.
In addition, not only is it important to have an intelligent and positive female lead in a series for young adults, but it is also important to continually provide opportunities for female artists and writers in a male-dominated genre. Plus the world will always benefit from more original stories. You can help promote creativity and original art by supporting an indie artist/writer. You can use this project to pre-order the books, and/or support the project.
I need your support to get my work in front of a larger audience. The fate of the world is in your hands.

Writing a book may seem easy, fun, and cheap, but it is far from that. There's the cost of book printing and a professional book trailer, file formatting for e-books, the website design and hosting, social media setup and maintenance, professional editing and copy-writing, marketing materials and online promotions.
Here is a list of where the money would go:
- $600 for online marketing, including YouTube, twitter, Facebook and other social media websites.
- $850 for reviews, press release, and creating general buzz about the book.
- $570 professional editing.
- $500 for the Kickstarter fees and prizes.
- $750 for miscellaneous print and online marketing materials including: web design, hosting, ads, and a professionally designed book trailer complete with voice over, music, and animation.
- $0 for word of mouth marketing (this is where you come in).
Release Date and Thereafter:
- $2,225 to cover the cost of books, book fairs, and shows.
- $405 to cover shipping.
- $225 for a banner, sign, posters, and t-shirts to promote the series.
- $600 for travel to promotional events, and for in-person marketing.
If you do the math the prerelease phase comes out to $3,270. After the release date the cost would be another $3,455— amounting to a total of $5,805. I have listed the goal below this amount because I am willing to foot the rest of the bill. If we can stretch this budget more, a better campaign would be $10,000— which I can aim for if we meet the initial goal.
Risks and challenges
What can possibly go wrong? (Besides a random zombie apocalypse, a portal to another dimension being opened, or spontaneous human combustion.) Kickstarter does a great job minimizing a supporter's risks by its own guarantee. Also, if I am not fully funded, you will not be charged per Kickstarter's policy.
Paperback books may cause paper cuts, or your e-book reader might run out of batteries in the middle of a very exciting scene. The dangers of reading are endless— you may even enjoy yourself.
Also, I could possibly go on a bike ride and break both my arms— but even then I've already written everything and the artwork just needs to be put into printing format. My signature might be a little lopsided, so there is that.
Outside of that, I've done as much planing as humanly possible to make sure this runs smoothly. Everything is complete and ready to go. I just need the funding to kick start my book campaign.
