I'm a wood block printmaker and sole proprietor of Words On Woodcuts Press. For this Make 100 campaign I’m creating a limited edition accordion book featuring original woodcuts.
This will be an original work of art made with archival materials. The books will have a hard, decorative cover with the title on the front and artist's signature and the edition number on the back. It could be stored closed to save space, displayed open on a shelf, or mounted and framed.
Contributors have the option of either a black and white version of the book for $25 or hand-colored version for $40. These are some examples of some of my woodcuts done in the style I plan for this project, featured in both black and white and color:
This book will illustrate the Mother Goose Rhyme A Wise Old Owl.
A wise old owl sat in an oak,
The more he heard, the less he spoke;
The less he spoke, the more he heard;
Why aren't we all like that wise old bird.
Risks and challenges
I am no stranger to crowdfunding. I collected the seed funds to publish my first two books (each in editions of 500) through successful pre-sale campaigns and crowd-sourced small business loans. I know it's a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.
I'm so grateful to all the family, friends, colleagues, and collectors of my work who have supported all my past endeavors and given me the confidence to not only maintain my studio practice, but also get my work out to a broader audience. Thank you, all!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
