Over the last three years, Daniel Vais has been engaging with world-renowned fashion and art photographers* to produce extraordinary images of models with Down's Syndrome – highly stylised as objects of desire and beauty.
Now it is time for the next level: to put together a coffee-table book that will blur the boundaries between disciplines and work a new aesthetic against the current conceptions of what constitutes beauty.
By its nature, Radical Beauty will challenge opinion and understanding of beauty as a social construct. This book will be a first of its kind. It will open a window to a new horizon for beauty in contemporary culture. This book contains brilliant images of the intense, strong and poetic presence of models adorned by a team of super creative fashion and beauty experts. The project also gives fashion photographers the opportunity to lead culture through important changes through their art form. In the same vein, it gives the fashion industry an opportunity to engage with different models. The aim is for Radical Beauty to become an international reference book for industry members and creatives, as well as a universal source of inspiration. Society – and particularly the fashion industry – tends to value a narrow range of 'perfection' as the ideal standard of beauty. People with Down's Syndrome are not widely considered to be desirable, glamorous or perfect. This book will not only challenge this stance, but press people to consider how the work of fashion and art professionals contributes to current beauty standards. It will also provide a platform for a marginalised community without a high-level of social visibility. Portraying people with Down's Syndrome in this manner will increase awareness of this condition, and stimulate discussion on how society views disability overall.
PLEASE SPREAD THE MESSAGE TO MAKE THIS IMPORTANT BOOK HAPPEN.
