We began working on new bracelet designs for one size fits all bracelets that were waterproof, durable, and unique and would create sustainable work for those in the village.
Each pendant is hand carved by the men out of water buffalo bone from neighboring islands that would otherwise go to waste and the bands are woven by the women from nylon sewing thread. Even our jewelry bags, wooden boxes, and display stands are made locally.
Q: Where does the Water Buffalo Bone come from?
A: Great question! Water Buffalo, also known as Banteng in Indonesia, are the common species of wild cattle that has been domesticated. No cow is ever put to death for its bone or horn- the bone is simply a by-product of life that would otherwise go to waste. It's sustainable- unlike whale or elephant ivory- in surplus and collected and brought to the bone carvers in the village.
Risks and challenges
We've spent the last 6 months working on streamlining design and production for Wanderer Bracelets. Our sample production, shipping, and order processing has been successful.
This is our first KickStarter campaign, but we are confident we will be able to complete the project and deliver on time. Possible setbacks include issues in shipping, natural disasters, and acts of God. If issues do arise, we will be sure to keep you informed!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
