We founded Great Lakes to create a classic line of apparel inspired by northern living. Being Minnesota natives ourselves, we value our summers more than most. Cruising around the lake with friends and returning to grill up dinner at sunset is our ideal afternoon. We found the Midwest to be underrepresented in today's lifestyle clothing brands - so we set out to change it. Our culture is about working hard but always finding time to enjoy the finer things in life.
The blue loon logo is one that resonates with all Midwesterners. The loon has a unique and undeniable beauty that sets it apart from other birds. When you hear the distinct call of the loon you have no choice but to stop and pay attention, we like to think we elicit a similar response with our brand.
We strive to create premium products built to last, using the best materials and manufacturing them right here in America. We've partnered with several local suppliers that understand our mission to produce high quality goods.
We want to bridge the gap between our customers and the hardworking people that create our products. We value transparency in all aspects of our business, starting with the supply chain. Over the past six months, we've visited our factories, built relationships with the owners, and introduced ourselves to the craftsmen behind our products.
One of the cornerstones we've built into GL is our dedication to keeping our beautiful lakes clean. Because our heritage is so deeply rooted in our love for the lake, we've partnered with two awesome organizations: Conservation Minnesota & Alliance for the Great Lakes. Both non-profits work tirelessly to research, protect and educate others on being good stewards of our land and lakes.
Over the past year we've created a line of shirts, hats and small accessories, but we have bigger ideas in store. We have concrete plans in place to expand our line of premium products built specifically for the Midwesterner and it all begins with our Hudson Polo.
We've sourced fabric from a California mill that's spun exclusively for us. The combination of cotton and spandex provides a forgiving fit. A brushed interior makes for an incredibly soft feel while still maintaining the classic pique texture on the outside. Laser engraved buttons and our signature "Lake Blue" chambray trim adds our personal touch.
We've partnered with Stock Mfg. Co out of Chicago to manufacture our polo and future projects. They have an incredible attention to detail and understand our high-quality standards.

The GL Team
Recent graduates and passionate entrepreneurs who believe we should get more for what we pay for. Our goal is simple: Create well-made, useful products inspired by our love for the lake.
In our spare time we enjoy running, lacrosse, escaping to the cabin, a friendly game of golf, grabbing a Tilapia Taco at the Tin Fish and spending (multiple) days at the State fair.
Where Your Money Is Going
We've spent $10,000 of our own money on fabric, buttons, labels, samples and patterns. Everything is ready to go. All we need is your help to fire up the sewing machines and start on the first production run.
Producing goods in America has its hurdles. Being a start-up with limited resources, manufacturing our polo requires a high minimum for us to stay competitive on costs. Reaching our goal of $20,000 would allow us to successfully launch our first signature product.
If we surpass our goal, we'll be able to finish development work on our fleece and button ups. Help launch the GL lifestyle!
Risks and challenges
We've done our best to minimize any risks & challenges associated with our project. We have several prototypes on hand for both our belt and polo shirt. We can proudly say, they look awesome.
The fabric, buttons, labels and leather have all been ordered which will help eliminate potential setbacks and expedite the production process. We've also been in constant communication with our manufacturer and created a schedule to ensure an accurate fulfillment date.
However, some unexpected drawbacks may still occur that our out of our control. We will communicate with our backers and the kickstarter community for any of these delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
