About

This project came about from my desire to share with the world the beauty and the sophistication of historical Persian firearms, and my respect for the skill of the craftsmen who made and decorated them, the ingenuity of the engineers who designed them, and the bravery of the people who used them.

Like my previous book, Arms and Armor from Iran, the aim of Persian Fire and Steel is to give the reader a view of these artifacts not only as instruments of war, but also as objects of art and great beauty. This book is the result of several years of research and translation in several collections and archives in different countries. It is my hope that lovers of art, history, and weaponry all find in it something that speaks to them.

The book

With over four hundred pages and hundreds of high quality photographs and illustrations, Persian Fire and Steel represents one of the most comprehensive insights into the world of historical Persian firearms ever written. In the catalog part, it shows detailed pictures of 112 items of Persian firearms ranging from matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap muskets and pistols to cannons, howitzers, mortars, and swiverl guns.

Ranging from small arms to artillery, it covers everything on the subject from their manufacture to their deployment in battle as described in contemporary treatises. Many of these texts included in this book have been translated to English for the first time.

Risks and challenges

All the research and writing for this book has already been completed, as has the page setting - all that is left is to publish it! As such, there is very little risk in this campaign - as long as the funding is secured, it will be published.

Publishing the book will take up to a few months, but as long as there are no unexpected delays in the process, I am confident that the book will ship within two months of the completion of the campaign. Having already worked with this publisher on my previous books, I have high hopes that the process will go smoothly. I will be posting updates to this campaign to let you know about the progress and any delays.
