About
Storybook Racket grew out of a simple idea - "What does it sound like when a big time mafia boss reads a bedtime story?" What would he do when someone stole his porridge? How would a mafioso define a "happy ending"?
As voice artists and storytellers we started with this premise and brought our sense of humor, our talents and wacky ideas, to create Storybook Racket. We've worked on the story, script, character design, voice overs and animation for over a year now, with plans to finish it with your help here on Kickstarter.

This teaser of Storybook Racket is a slice of a longer cartoon. When it's fully complete, our animated short will be about five minutes long, with an opening scene that involves a Sherman tank, a mountain of candy, and references to nuclear fission. Fugeddaboudit.
Your support will grant us the resources we need to finish this project. If this campaign succeeds, the funding generated will allow us to pay for:
- Execution of character and background designs
- Animation and effects
- Sound elements and sound engineering
- Additional professional resources

Risks and challenges
We have dozens of ideas we want to bring to life. Even "Storybook Racket" started as a 10 minute script. Some of the hardest work was paring it down to a 5 minute script and then making it into a two minute teaser.
As a team we were conscious of how much this work load demanded of us, with organization and follow-through in mind. A lot of beautiful work into this. We want to produce a funny animated short, but must stay within an indie budget and schedule. We'd like to bring on board the right people for some of the incredibly complex work it is to do an animated story right.
Which means less control!
*Inhale, paper bag, breathe, breathe. Breathe*
We worry about burnout. We've sunk a lot of our own time and money into this and other, yet-to-be-revealed, projects. You see the result with your own eyes. We are passionate and love what we do. That's the only reason we do it. We're proud of our work and wish to see it completed for everyone to see.
We have been at this first cartoon for over 8 months with the plan to bring it to you on Kickstarter. This is with meeting only twice a month in person, and using email, Skype, and smoke signals in between. It's amazing and it's exciting how much we have accomplished, and how fortunate we are to work with one another, but finding our pace and strategy for work load has been a challenge.
We overcome this by taking breaks to rebuild our passion for voice over and comedy. As working voice artists we audition constantly, take classes together, get up in front of any open mic to perform stand-up comedy, workshop other ideas, go see shows, stand in a wonder woman posture and let the wind blow in our hair, whatever it takes to put fuel into our drive.
Our life's dream is to work as character voice artists, and we're making it happen. To stay refreshed however, we have to put this baby down from time to time.
