"Rage War" is a strategic cross-platform MMOS that passes you through the 7 Ages of Earth’s history. Build cities, battle armies, and trade for power whilst simultaneously competing against other eras of time. Rewrite the evolution of mankind’s history through epic warfare.

Have you even wondered what it feels like to personally evolve from Stone Age to modern times? Or what a battle between a caveman and knight would look like? Rage War is the first cross-platform game that gives you the ability to battle across time in an innovative Web/Android/iOS tablet experience. Play with your friends or complete the solo campaign to evolve your army through history.

With the wise choice of military or economic development, you will unlock quests and meet new interesting characters as you move forward through time. We became avid gamers from such classics as Age of Empires, Starcraft, Command and Conquer but wanted to create our own innovations to make Rage War a fun and unique experience. Our engaging battle system combined with the ability to custom build and upgrade your civilization brings exciting gameplay to both web and mobile devices for the first time.

Starting in the Stone Age, you begin the game struggling with the hard decisions based on that era. By building a small civilization you being to earn the resources to fortify your village and eventually gain a small group of warriors. As you continue to grow and evolve throughout the ages you will become more and more powerful, giving to your disposal new and advanced tools of war, economics, and influence.

As a gamer, progressing in the different historical ages multiplies your fun as you grow in the ability to upgrade buildings and units (making them stronger).  Your competitors will also be evolving at a different pace - so it is entirely possible your "Stone Age" army may have to battle another one much more modern. To balance this, different armies have various advantages no matter what era they're from, so each battle can be closely matched as long as the players adjusted their strategy.

Battles and Strategy

Before we started development we knew that one of the most engaging and  addicting elements would need to be the battles. We are big fans of several of the well-known tactical games from large publishers; but for some reason no one had combined the best features into one game. We decided to take some of the ideas that we love combined them into a perfect balance for Rage War.

Rage War is not the regular strategy game. Instead it takes the strategic finesse of a game like chess (where you have multiple units of warriors with different abilities) and combines it with a “reverse tower defense” play style (like if you played Plants vs. Zombies as a Zombie). In the game you have two separate strategies you are accountable for: Attack and Defense.

Attack 
Prior to attacking you can scout your enemies city and decide where they are most vulnerable, then choose to attack from multiple positions. Once you choose your approach, you can control the formation of your army on the battlefield by strategically placing your units in the optimal design for attack. As soon as the battle begins, you watch your army attempt to take over your competitor's defense and further tweak your attacks based on how effective they were against the defender's buildings. This "reversed tower defense" warfare element makes the game tactically challenging and extremely exciting to play.

So in few words – Research your target, get to know him very well, and find his weak spots. Set up your attack carefully, chose the position of your units - and watch them destroy your enemy!

Defend
Your defense is what keeps your empire alive. Like in real warfare, you should always prepared and set up a predetermined elaborate defense to guard your castle. Scouts from the enemy will be fully aware of the protection you have taken so you must be ready at any time to ward off opposing armies. What is the most crucial aspect of defense? It is your castle - if the enemy army destroys your Castle you are temporarily frozen until you repair it (causing you to wait a certain amount of time and rely on your guild if you're part of one.).

Develop Units and Buildings

Battles are an integral part of the game-play experience in Rage War, but it was equally important for us to bring innovation to the individual Units and Buildings available in game. There are four main categories available to build: Infantry Units, Armored Units, Flying Units, and of course all types of Buildings. Each unit type has their own advantages/disadvantages that enable them to perform different operations during an attack/defense. Every unit knows his job, be sure of that. Here is the categories:

Infantry Units – These are your ground units - typically attacking everything that walks and moves. With them you can stop your enemies waves of attack or assault their buildings & structures. These are short and mid-range units that mainly attack other ground units such as Archers, Swordsman, Clubmen, Hunters, Marauders, etc.. As with all units, they will evolve through the ages with upgrades to become more and more powerful.

Armored Units – These heavy units are more capable of enduring battle damage and are useful in destroying incoming infantry units with powerful strikes. These units include mounted riders (such as the The Saber-tooth rider and gilded Knights) and armored vehicles like Ballistas and (our favorite) durable Giant Turtles.

Flying Units – With Flying Units the your creativity in warfare can reach new heights... These units are an efficient way to diversify your army with air combat in attack and defense. Examples include War Balloons, DaVinci style Flying Machines, and Zeppelins. 

Buildings & Structures- The buildings you construct not only allow you to expand  your city, but also offer important battle advantages. Developing a variety of buildings enables you to have a dynamic arsenal to back your tactics Examples include Defensive Walls, Archer Towers, and stationary Cannons.

The world of Rage War is designed to be a massive experience for both mobile and browser. Not only is there a complex competitive element, but also a full Solo campaign enabling you refine your skills and to wage your own crusade. Conquer lands, outposts, enemy camps, and castles on completely different islands. With every new acquisition of land your resources continue to grow, further strengthening your power. 

Social & Trading System

In Rage War you can achieve a lot by yourself, but the victory is sweeter when you've invited friends to join in the experience. Helping a player start their city wins you and instant ally - which can make a pivotal difference in critical battles when you are low on resources. There is also an economic advantage to signing up for teams - called Guilds. Together you can join to defend or aid fellow Guild members who become devastated by war.

Rage Wars features a robust economic system to enable you to trade your way power. It is possible to play the entire game as a complete pacifist and instead of waging war simply to use your economic gains and straight out buy new kingdoms. If used strategically, the trade system can make you the richest most powerful city without lifting a sword. The choice between warrior and trader is yours - freedom is everything!

When we first began developing this game our initial mission was to redefine what a strategy based MMOS could be with our creativity. Currently, many online games allow you to play anywhere, anytime, but the gameplay is still very limited by what device you own. Even though technology is becoming increasingly advanced, there is a low supply of “real” games that are available as cross platform - and gamers are stuck compromising on quality when playing on the go (...not to downplay a certain candy based game). Thanks to the focus of  development on technology with Rage War, we can now cross the limits of your PC and offer a rich experience no matter how you choose to play.  

Just as there are different game genres and styles, we know that every gamer has different play preferences as well. We are proud that Rage War is a game you can play on-the-go no matter where you are - using the device of your preference. 

Rage War will be a game differentiated by its engaging battle system and the ability to evolve cities through time, but our vision would not be possible without your support. Your funding we will enable us to scale the technology and art of our project while maximizing the "fun" inside of our game. This means hiring developers who are capable of optimizing the user experience with the addition of Flash (beyond the scope of our current build utilizing Ruby and Rails) and engaging with highly professional artists to deliver more visuals for the game, offering further development to our character art and 3D models.

We started this KickStarter as an Indie developer with an ambitious vision for Rage War and it is important to us to have the support and input of our players right from the beginning. Most importantly, we wanted to make a game YOU WANT TO PLAY and give our supporters an opportunity to become part of Rage Wars history. KickStarter provides the unique opportunity to engage directly with the community and ask you, our fans, to believe and support us and share in the excitement right from the beginning. We have faith in this project and want to offer the absolute best experience to our players -- To accomplish this goal we truly need your support.

Risks and challenges

A strategy game, especially one involving the ability to both develop, evolve, and battle, means that there are many complex in-game systems cooperating at once. To achieve the desired game-play experience, not only are these mechanics difficult to develop, but also to delicately balance in order to keep the game enjoyable for each play pattern. Rage War is a very deep game but it is important to us that we also make it accessible for players to quickly pick up and learn (Reminds us of the Othello Marketing campaign: "A minute to learn, A lifetime to Master"). To mitigate this risk we've selected a team of developers who have a proven track record of success and will also will be testing the game in Beta prior to release. As we've learned from our prior experience, the feedback we receive will help us add final touches into the game and ensure a fluid experience upon final launch.

Of course there is always the risk of falling behind schedule during development. This is always an industry related risk - especially when the bar for quality as raised as high as it should be. As our battle system nears completion, the heavy lifting has mostly been done from an R&D standpoint and we are currently right on track to deliver the beta right on time. We've been careful to set very real and achievable goals in the timeline above, and are very optimistic about meeting each deadline. The further funding we receive from KickStarter will further secure this timeline as we increase our headcount and bandwidth on this project.

An advantage XS-Software has is that we have real experience in both creating and launching cross platform games. Even if obstacles are put in our way during development we are fully aware of the challenge ahead of us and have a knowledgeable team in place to safely navigate the completion of Rage War. We are far enough into development that the risk of non-completion or under delivery have already been obliterated. We are an independent gaming studio and totally in control of both the end product and the final schedule of which we release.
