About

Baelyn's Bramble

Over the years I have developed in to quite the gamer, from role play to video games. However, my siblings and parents never shared my enthusiasm. After growing up in a world all my own I found the person with whom I would conquer the rest of life's adventures. I hoped to share my wondrous world with her and she was more than willing to tag along. In our attempts to meet on a level playing field we discovered the amount of time required to master even the simplest of RPGs was too much for a dedicated mother. Thus began my search for a gaming experience I could share with the average person. I have discovered the chasm between gamer and ordinary has not been bridged, and in turn have set out to do just that.

Forlorn Fables (my own story or "campaign setting") is the backdrop for this game. And a major character in the lore stands as the inspiration for this game.

The premise of the game varies based on how you choose to play. But slay and loot still stands at the center.

The rules have proven challenging to write and simplify, but thankfully with color coding they have been designed to allow players to learn as the game progresses.

Though the concept of classes still exists there are no character sheets. You can leave your pencils, papers, and cumbersome player guides at home. All you need at the table is friends.

Of the 240 Monster, Villain, Hero, and Loot cards no two are the same. I hope to have all of them hand drawn to reflect the unique and subtle nuances of each one.

Death is handled as a gambit rather than a punishment, and players will often find the opportunity of death enticing.

The best part of game play is it caters to both the professional strategist and the casual player. Grade school math is just as effective as collecting item sets and counting cards.

The greatest opportunity in this product is themes. It lends itself well to taking on the most popular themes from fantasy to science fiction.

There is so much more to this project than can be covered in this description. Hopefully I have given enough insight to encourage your support. As you can tell from the picture I already have a working prototype. All of the art, and the game tokens are copyright Wizards of the Coast. I am borrowing their images and miniatures to portray the novelty quality of the game. The finished product will have original art, models, and names.

The purpose of this Kick start is to gain the funds to reproduce a final working prototype and pay the fees to submit the game to Hasbro (or White Castle Games). I have several artists prepared to render full original artwork including, the cards, the board and the box. I however need to raise the funds to pay for the art and production of game pieces.

Risks and challenges

The most fearful setback post kickstarter would be outright rejection by the reviewing company. White Castle Games states they return rejected products with tips and suggestions on improvement. Forlorn has been on the burner for years now, first appearing almost 8 years ago as a hiccup in my creative process. It flopped on a friends and family level proving a silly and incomplete idea. It resurfaced last year and with a printer and some experience with digital editing I was able to produce completely custom material (with supplemented art from the WotC archives.) This time it proved to be convincingly coherent. Game play flopped again on the account of creatures of all difficulties appearing at random across the board. Players spent most of their time dead and escaping the Ferry Man proved tedious rather than challenging. Finally with some rules revision the game proved entertaining and enthralling.
What I mean to say is I understand projects of this nature are not right the first time, but with more play tests before the "final print" I hope to push it through the first time.
Should the worst occur and the prototype you fund is returned; it will come with recommendations on revision, and give me the opportunity to work with expert opinions. Hopefully the revisions will be with the rules as they have been giving me the opportunity to reuse the material at no additional costs.
After years of constantly creating new games and ideas I feel I have found one which will go right to the top. I am dedicated enough to this project to have committed my own funds to the initial prototype. I have my dreams of creating something others can enjoy coming true and you can be apart of it.
