About

Hoogie Trax in snow
Hoogie Trax in snow
MORE THAN JUST MOBILITY
MORE THAN JUST MOBILITY

My project is to build the first finished production model Hoogie Trax. The Production model Hoogie Trax will be based on my patented track system and an upgraded electronics system which will increase power and torque levels by approximately 40%. Funds will be used to purchase all necessary parts and materials to build this model from all new components. So far, all four of the prototypes have been built using stock parts from basic power chairs. As these prototypes were built primarily to demonstrate the concept, little attention was paid to aesthetics. The production unit will be "showroom" ready.

After much research, a new 120amp control system has been ordered which should be delivered mid April. The new system will; not only, add the needed power; but will also, increase control and user friendly adjustment while maintaining adequate safety features. Upgrading from the typical 70amp system to a modern digital system with 120 amps should be enough to overcome the lack of adequate power during peak power demands such as steep hill climbs and power to weight ratio issues. The modular control system that has been selected will also allow additional control modules to be added increasing the flexibility with a variety of user friendly functions.

For lack of springs and squishy, air filled tires, track machines produce a comparatively rough ride. To help overcome this, Hoogie Trax has been fitted with seat suspension for operator comfort. By design, Hoogie Trax has 6 to 8 inches of ground clearance, can climb a 6 inch curb from street to sidewalk and can still go anywhere a standard power chair will go, such as, through pedestrian openings in fences and on public transportation like the MAX train here in Portland.

The intent is to custom build each Hoogie Trax to fit the users needs and desires and a more generic model for use as a rent or lease option. The unit itself is easily transported and if necessary, with no tools, the seat can be removed and the unit will fit into the back of a mid sized station wagon.

Interest in The Hoogie Trax seems to be building and with your help I will be able to build a quality model ready for sale to the public and/or leasing at special events.

Risks and challenges

I've rigorously tested my track system and it is most impressive. The only obstacle so far is that it leaves most wanting for a little more power. This will be solved by replacing the wimpy 70 amp control system used in the prototypes with a much better 120 amp system. Not only will this system be more powerful, it will also allow the end user to adjust the control parameters to exactly suit their tastes. My ultimate goal is to enhance personal freedom through increased mobility, for the physically challenged. This project and it's backers will not only help overcome the challenge that a lack of capital presents, but by word of mouth, help connect people they know, to the possibilities we present.

A really awesome fleece hat, handmade by me, for every $40 pledged. Some examples of these hats can be seen in the project video. Hats are made from recycled materials as well as embellished with recycled and new material. Limit of ten hats per pledge. Everyone is allowed the opportunity to experience Hoogie Trax during public outings. To ride on Hoogie Trax, all you have to do is be where it is. Anyone interested can e-mail us at hoogietrax@gmail.com. We will let you know where we will be and when we will be there.I am in Oregon and Ken, a life long friend, who has been handling the patenting process, has a prototype in Georgia.
