What Is Solomon's Porch?
Solomon's Porch is a twenty first century morality tale rooted in an ancient faith. Broken and alone, suffering through the consequences of his sin, Peter Carson is overwhelmed by pain and guilt as he sits in prison. The most unlikely of divine messengers, Peter is prophetically destined to provide the world with hope and miracles, to proclaim the Kingdom of God at a time when the children of Adam have forgotten who they are. Satan is quick to strike back as his servants sow confusion and invite annihilation. The world is balanced on a precipice, teetering between true peace and global war, between salvation and capitulation to the evil one.
Solomon's Porch is a finished product. It is professionally edited and beautifully packaged. It is available right now on Amazon.com or it can be ordered through any bookstore.
A sampling of praise for Solomon's Porch:
Midwest Book Review
“The call and faith and ministry can strike anyone, even those written off as the scum of society. Solomon’s Porch tells the story of Peter Carson, a prisoner with little to look forward to in life. He soon finds himself split in between Satan who is calling him to return to the path that led him there, and the call of God which puts him as a divine messenger. An uphill struggle, to find his own faith and his own place in life as well as delivering God’s message, Solomon’s Porch is an intriguing read that shouldn’t be overlooked for Christian suspense readers.”
Amazon.com Reviewer, September 2011
“This is a fast paced read with well-developed characters that engages the reader in the only true battle we are all interlocked into...it underscores that our battles are not with each other, but with a real insidious enemy that would like nothing more than to turn us against each other.”
Light and Life Publishing Spring 2011
“One would hope that many a sermon in our churches could be as powerful as this book and as fully consistent with orthodox Christian teachings. Solomon’s Porch brings home an important message to those led astray by the shallow materialism of contemporary society. Riveting, it offers much to ponder. Christian fiction at its best.”
The Bread of Life (Canada) January 2012
“Mr. Bastian tells a wonderful suspense story filled with conversion and forgiveness, where past lives are changed and each personality is used by God for a great purpose...this is a good book written with the intention of showing miraculous conversion and the spiritual power of God’s Holy love.”
Yvette Clinton, Charlotte, NC August 2011
“I found this book very exciting and interesting and also very scary at the same time. It also captured my imagination and drew me in to the point that I could not put the book down....The book's message is, “God loves us! He is not giving up on us unless we give up on ourselves.” He wants us to stop hurting each other, feed the hungry, clothe the needy and accept the path that He has chosen for us....Solomon’s Porch has surely made me think about the way we live our lives. It has made me question my faith. Is it enough? What is enough? I will tell others about this book and hope that it makes a difference in their lives and that they understand the message which is “God’s precious gift of love”.
Mimi Kelly, Metairie, LA August 2011
“I thoroughly enjoyed Solomon’s Porch and read every page, anxious to find out what was going to happen next. I found your writing to be very touching. You have the capability to make the reader “feel” what you are writing. Whenever the emotion reduced me to tears (and that happened a lot), my poor old eyes would get all cloudy and blurry and I would have to stop, regroup and wait for my eyes to clear. Seriously, this happened throughout the book! You left me with a major cliffhanger, now I can’t wait for the next book. Please tell me that you have a book in the wings, which will continue this story and appease my curiosity.”
Patrick Calvert, Nashville, TN
“Recently I stayed with my father-in-law during a month or so of unemployment. During my second day here, I was in the his bedroom reading the Bible while my oldest daughter was watching a children’s program on t.v. I happened to notice Solomon's Porch the night stand and picked it up with the intentions of reading a page or two so I could see what he was reading. Well, let me tell you, that after a few chapters, my wife tried unsuccessfully to get my attention for the next three days! I was staying up until midnight or more before reading and waking up before anyone to have quiet time. I have no doubt that this book will be received greatly among our brothers in the world. I have already made the suggestion to some back in Nashville to pick up this book on-line. I am looking forward to reading more of your works in the near future.”
About This Project
My name is Wid Bastian. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my Kickstarter video and for helping us introduce Solomon's Porch to the world.
I am a full time writer – a novelist and screenwriter primarily. While Solomon's Porch is my only published novel to date, I have completed two other novels that are awaiting publication. My short stories have appeared in the Liguorian (most recently, Her Letter, November 2011) and in Halo magazine (April 2012). This Rock magazine has purchased my conversion story and my life has been chronicled by The New Vision (January 2011) and The Sooner Catholic (August 2010).
My personal and artistic identity is rooted in my Christian faith. On to this base I add my life experiences – as a scholar, businessman, husband and father and also as a penitent sinner who spent years sequestered from the world. I enjoy writing Christian themed morality tales as well as secular suspense novels and literary works that combine spiritual elements with “gritty”, real world themes.
The book tour is a cooperative effort. My publisher, Tate Publishing out of Oklahoma, handles the logistics – they set up the events, print and distribute the books, issue press releases and take care of the paperwork. It is up to me, through your patronage, to pay for some of the books that will be sold at the events, to print and distribute promotional material and to pay for my transportation and living expenses while I'm on tour.
My friends and family have invested hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to bring me to this point. They, and I, believe that Solomon's Porch carries a message, the “good infection” as C.S. Lewis called it, that the world desperately needs to hear. We also believe that the only thing required to turn Solomon's Porch into a bestseller is exposure and promotion.
Why California for the first book tour? California is very fertile ground. Not only are there millions of Christians living within an easily accessible range, Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world. By starting in Southern California I will be building a solid base on which the book can grow. If Solomon's Porch gains a following in California, that may prove to be all the momentum it needs to become a nationwide success.
You are a vital part of rolling out this wonderful book. My reward packages are designed so that you can actively participate in this project. Without your support, Solomon's Porch will remain a great novel that no one knows about. With your support amazing things can happen.
Phase One of my Kickstarter effort is designed to fund the costs of an eighteen day book tour in Southern California. During this period, September 28 through October 15, I will be doing five events per week at secular and religious bookstores in San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties.
Once Phase One is fully funded, I will roll out through updates the particulars on Phase Two and Phase Three, covering the period through November 12 and encompassing Central and Northern California.
How often do you get the opportunity to directly support a work of art that can change lives, that communicates pure truth, that brings the Gospel to life in a way that can touch people who have turned their backs on God?”
Maybe just once. Right now.
I invite you to be a part of something God planted in the heart of a struggling sinner to show him, and the world, a bright light in a dark world.
Thank you for your support and God bless.
