About this project
Central City: Heroes is a cooperative table top board game for 1-4 players. Each player will control a unique Superhero with their own super power. Each game takes approximately 60-90 minutes. Players are going to work together to battle minions, complete objectives, recruit other heroes, acquire their upgrade cards and finally battle the Nemesis in the final showdown. To win the game the players must successfully complete 5 objectives.
Central City was once famous for it's legendary guardians. The last of those guardians was Captain Justice. Over thirty years ago Captain Justice fought against the forces of evil in the Battle of Central City. Although the villains were defeated that day, Captain Justice disappeared and has not been seen from since. For over thirty years greedy corporations such as Price Industries and mobster families like the Falsetto gang have moved in and taken control of Central City. What was once one of the world's most prosperous and peaceful cities has turned into a broken and corrupt place.
The game picks up right after Central City sends a group of it's students to Price Laboratories on a field trip. Price Laboratories has been rumored to conduct odd experimentation's. During the trip an accident occurs, which results in each of the students acquiring their own unique super ability. Armed with these new super powers the students set out to take back their city from the corrupt. To do so they will need to create hero personas. In the Central City: Heroes board game the players are going to control one of these characters.
Are you ready to become a guardian of Central City?

Each player will control one of six unique Superheroes-
ANGEL a.k.a. SAMANTHA SUMMERS
Samantha "Sam" Summers always puts the needs of others above her own.
Samantha grew up listening to stories about Captain Justice and the other guardians of Central City. As a child, Samantha and her older sister, Stacy would dress up and pretend to be guardians of Central City. Samantha is the heart of the group.
Angel is an expert marksman with her long bow. She wears a hood to help conceal her identity and her cloak that grants her the stealth ability. Angel remains light and mobile.
Angel’s ability to heal herself and her allies can be instrumental in preventing heroes from being KO’d.
KNIGHT a.k.a. WARREN LANCE
Warren Lance never takes anything too seriously.
Warren is witty, sarcastic and a prankster. Warren's family, the Lances, also happen to be one of the richest families in Central City. If it wasn’t for his family's influence and generous donations, Warren would have likely been kicked out of Central City High by now.
The Lances have recently done some business with Price Industries, the mega corp that owns Price Laboratories, the place where Warren is going on a class trip.
Knight fights with a large battle sword, making him a dangerous adversary. For defense, in addition to his battle armor, he carries a shield, which grants him the guard ability.
Knight’s ability to ready himself and other heroes can mean the difference between winning or losing critical challenges or objectives.
OUTLAW a.k.a. ROY CLINTON
Roy Clinton has never backed down from a fight in his life.
After being kicked out of his last school, Roy was transferred to Central City High. He was instantly recognized as a rebel and an outcast to most of the other students. He was caught trying to skip out of class, but as luck or fate would have it one of the other students was sick that day and Roy managed to bluff his way onto the school bus heading for Price Laboratories on a field trip.
Outlaw doesn’t like guns and much prefers his boomerangs because of the skill they require. For backup he carries a hidden dagger. His chest plate, which grants him the guard ability, has been dented and banged up many times over.
Outlaw is a force to be reckoned with, as his ability allows him to do additional damage to enemy characters when he is attacking in a challenge.
WARDEN a.k.a. JORDAN STEELE
Jordan Steele is considered the "King" of Central City High.
Jordan is the starting quarterback of the Guardians, Central City High's football team. His quick thinking and athleticism have lead the Guardians to many victories. Jordan is the leader of the group.
The Warden is encased in state-of-the-art combat armor. The battle armor includes: a built-in rocket pack (granting the Warden the flight ability), wrist lasers for ranged attacks, and a helmet with sensor scanning capabilities. The armor is made from a rate metal and provides the Warden with great protection.
The Warden’s ability allows him to coordinate and maneuver his fellow heroes around the board.
WIZARD a.k.a. ALEXANDER MAGUS
Alexander Magus is first in his class.
Alexander has a brilliant mind. He’s currently taking AP courses in calculus, physics and computer science. Alexander is excited for his class trip, as it will allow him to meet his idol, Doctor Purvis, who works at Price Laboratories.
Wizard constructed his gear based on his own designs and specifications. A power staff, capable of harnessing and weaponizing electricity, a pair of booster boots designed for high altitude jumps, which grants him the flight ability and a top hat that's full of surprises!
Wizard’s ability to exhaust characters can help win challenges against enemies or help recruit new heroes to the team.
WOLF a.k.a. LUNA MORENO
Luna Moreno is an artist and loves nature.
Luna expresses herself through her art, which sometimes includes graffiti. Luna has heard about the odd experiments going on at Price Laboratories and intends to use her class field trip to collect intel on the laboratory, so she can return and release the test animals trapped inside.
Wolf's weapon of choice are her razor claws, which allow her to do extra damage during a challenge. She also has a black leather jacket perfect for concealment at night and granting Wolf the stealth ability.
Wolf’s ability to be able to re-draw her fate cards when participating in challenges, allows her to be extra effective when battling enemies.
Building Central City
Each game, players will randomly place the 16 Location Hex Tiles to create the below pattern. This will create Central City. Every game the board and city will look different. During the game players will move their heroes around the board in order to complete objectives, battle bad guys and find other heroes to recruit on their team.
Each player will have a unique Super Power card. When a player combines their Super Power card with their Player Board it will create their "Hero Persona". There are 90 different hero personas in the Central City: Heroes Core Set.
The players will need to keep their secret identities hidden as the game tries to reveal them. If the heroes secret identities are revealed it will become easier for the villains to target those heroes.
Throughout the game the players will be able to acquire upgrade cards for their Superheroes. These can be Gear upgrades as the characters better outfit their hardware or Power upgrades as the characters learn to master their super ability.
Players will be able to assemble their teams by recruiting heroes they find in Central City. There are four different hero classes: Guardian, Rogue, Tech and Warrior.
Each game the players will face a Nemesis. There are 6 different Nemesis cards in the Core Set. The Nemesis is the mastermind and a constant threat to the players. When the players reach the last objective they will have a final showdown with the Nemesis.
The players are all Superheroes working together on the same team. The Hazard mechanics are built so that no player is forced to play as the villains.
The game's difficulty can be adjusted by using any of the variants. These include supplying the heroes with limited resources, playing with two Nemesis that have teamed up against the heroes, or even starting the game unmasked with the heroes secret identities already revealed.
The game has a single player mode as well.
There are a number of non-player Heroes in the game that the players will be able to recruit on their teams and use as their own characters. Miniatures for these Characters will be unlocked as campaign stretch goals. But instead of us deciding which Heroes get priority, we’re going to leave that decision to the project’s backers.
Hopefully we unlock all Hero miniatures! But should only some of the additional Hero miniatures become unlocked, after the campaign ends, we will send out a survey to each backer. We will include an image and a bio for each Hero in the game and backers will get to vote on which characters they would like made into miniatures.
Since Central City: Heroes is a cooperative game, there are no turn sequences between the players. The players will work together to decide who should draw first, move first, attack first, etc.
Each game round consists of three phases:
1) Ready Phase: Ready characters/cards, re-set action points, draw cards and reveal an objective.
2) Move Phase: Move characters.
3) Challenges Phase: Flip hero tokens, reveal hazard cards, ranged damage, initiate challenges and attempt objective.
For a more in depth look at the rules, please check out the Central City: Heroes Beta Rule Book - here.
Please note these rules are the beta version and are subject to some changes before the games release.
The Central City: Heroes Core Set will contain approximately 200 unique pieces of art. In order to tackle this massive project we are excited to be working with Starcat Games in order to bring the world and characters of Central City to life. Starcat Games has produced wonderful artwork for games such as Legacy the Card Game.
It was important to us that the artwork also match the feel and tone of Central City. We believe Starcat Games has done exactly that.
All artwork goes through several approval steps. All artwork is still subject to change.

This is a high level view of the timeline for the game, all the way through manufacturing and finally shipping to project backers.
We are currently working with 3 different manufacturers: Panda Games, Win Go and Shenzhen Senfutong. Once the Kick Starter campaign is over and we have a better idea of quantities needed we will select a manufacturer.
We will be using Amazon as our primary fulfillment centers for the majority of pledges. Amazon has fulfillment centers in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, China and India. We will use other carriers as necessary to fulfill orders placed outside of those countries.
Clover Games LLC is a new independent gaming company. It really is a company of people who are passionate about games that stretch across the spectrum. Although Clover Games is going to primarily focus on table top board games we also greatly enjoy video games, card games, dice games, role playing games, party games, etc. We strive to bring the player perspectives to the table. Simply put we design games that we ourselves would enjoy. We hope this shows in our initial launch – Central City: Heroes.
We are going to ship Central City: Heroes worldwide. We have worked to keep the shipping costs as low as possible. Wherever possible we will be utilizing Amazon fulfillment centers around the globe, along with other shipping companies as needed.
Risks and challenges
Although this is technically Clover Games first Kick Starter launch, members of the team are no strangers to Kick Starter projects. We are also working with several manufacturers, all of which have produced a number of high quality games (Kick Starter games and non-Kick Starter games alike).
We are on schedule to have game rules and artwork finalized by Q4 2015 and be able to move into production Q1 2016.
With any kind of manufacturing, delays can happen. Communication is key when it comes to crowd funding and we aim to be open and transparent with our backers. We have assigned a project manager who is responsible for overseeing the project until our backers have the game box in hand. As a backer of this project you will receive regular progress updates and if issues or delays should occur you will be notified.
Our highest priority is to ensure you receive the BEST quality product that we could deliver to you. Our second highest priority is to ensure that product is delivered on time.
