Home to 84 million people and 54 ethnic groups, Vietnam is a diverse S-shaped country in South-east Asia. Vietnam stretches over 2,040 coastline miles, neighbors three countries and the South China Sea. The wide variety of Vietnamese landscape and people make Vietnam a prime location for photography.
Vietnam has a history of cultural influences, including the country's close proximity to China, the period as a French colony, and America's aid during the Vietnam War. These three influences play different roles in the heritage and culture of the Vietnamese people.
I will be traveling Vietnam, North to South, for four weeks. Starting in the older, French-influenced Hanoi, through the old capital of Hue, in central Vietnam, down to the youthful and Westernized, Ho Chi Minh City.
Along the way, I will visit architecture and landscape new and old. Pagodas, churches, museums, theaters, hotels, neighborhoods, rivers, plains, deltas, cities, and villages. I will spend the majority of my time meeting and socializing with the Vietnamese people. I want to understand their culture and lifestyle.
Ultimately, I want to capture a portrait of Vietnam as a whole, told through a series of photos.
