The project, "When I Grow Up" aims at giving struggling kids hope for the future on a global scale through photography.
You can see the first pictures from this project on our blog:
Even though our western society takes photography for granted, a lot of less fortunate people around the world have never held a camera or had the pleasure to receive a print of their beautiful family. We want everyone in the world to get access to photography.
We are planning on traveling to each continent in less than a year and go to the local youth shelters, schools and youth organizations with a bag full of costumes and take black and White portraits of kids dressed up as what they want to be when they grow up. A picture that will inspire them to reach for their dreams.
First we will ask the kids to think about their future by making a drawing of how they see themselves in the future. Then, the kids will let their imagination run wild, they will go through the costumes we will provide and they will make their own costumes if needed with the things that are available to us on location (cardboard, aluminium foil...) Right after we take the pictures, we will give them a black and white print from the shoot with the name of their dream job written on it.
Along the process, we will also give these less fortunate families a family picture of all of them together, that they can cherish forever. We will also listen to their stories and give them the crayons and pencils they used to draw the pictures.
We have contacts with humanitarian organizations around the world and we can already help kids who survived earthquakes, wars, and tsunamis in countries such as Haiti, Lebanon and Liberia
We will turn this series into a coffee table book showing how different kids' dreams and goals are from one continent to another. We will also attach a story to each picture.
The money will be used to buy kids costumes and toys, buy Photo Paper, make travel arrangements, buy Photography accessories, and pay for the production cost of the books and calendars.
