After the hugely successful Shakin’ It Up! preview event last November at the House of Blues, The Greater Boston Beverage Society Inc. has announced plans to launch The Boston Cocktail Summit, the first-ever city-wide cocktail event, on October 4-6, 2012. Part convention, part festival, Boston Cocktail Summit will be a three-day celebration of Greater Boston’s cocktail culture designed to highlight the city’s fascinating history of spirits, mixology, New England’s breweries, wineries, and distilleries.
Boston Cocktail Summit will celebrate the culture of the cocktail with three days of events, parties, trade exhibits, educational seminars, and galas with a style as only Boston can! A consumer event that is open the public, Boston Cocktail Summit will allow all enthusiasts to celebrate, commiserate, learn about, and imbibe great cocktails. Some of the biggest names in mixology will dazzle you with creative and classic cocktails, celebrated chefs will prepare exquisite dinners, the nations foremost authorities on spirits, wine and brews will captivate and stimulate your thoughts, all while the entertainment tickles your fancy! The event will appeal to bartenders & mixologists, chefs and others in the hospitality industry, as well as cocktail lovers from all over the country.
Established in September, 2011 by local mixologists Alexei Beratis and Jamie Walsh, The Greater Boston Beverage Society Inc. is a not-for-profit organization developed to preserve and promote Boston’s cocktail and hospitality culture and spirits history. The society's members all have extensive experience in the hospitality and beverage industry and have volunteered their expertise, and numerous hours, to promote our mission.
The Boston Cocktail Summit will be produced jointly by beverage, media, and corporate sponsors and by The Greater Boston Beverage Society. It is for the production costs of the later that we are seeking pledges. We have an agenda to bring "the little guys" to the industry's and public's eyes. Small craft distillers, brewers and winemakers, unique and hand crafted tool makers, syrup and bitters producers, and the individuals throughout the country that have developed new techniques and/or have educational experiences that need to be shared, but cannot afford the expenses involved, will be sponsored by us. Additional events and seminars will be produced to highlight the history and current trends of Boston, to the professional and consumer alike, as it relates to these industries. Our hope is to have enough funds to capture on film the trainings and lectures of these individuals, and offer them via the internet free of charge as well. Your support of this project will help us ensure a highly successful event by covering production costs, both large and small, for this portion of the summit. Funds will be used to cover expenses such as: presenter fees, venue rental, equipment rental, expenses for individual seminars and trainings, event video production, advertising, insurance, permit fees, security and the like.
We have many activities, presenters and venues lined up but many more interesting and entertaining events to bring to life. Any money we raise above and beyond the goal will be invested into producing an additional day, or half-day of the event. We feel the current trend in cocktails will continue to grow and that the Boston Cocktail Summit will grow as well. With an estimated attendance of 4000+ people over the three days, in the first year of the event, we are poised for regional and national attention. Our $25,000 goal is the minimum needed for this aspect of the summit, and anything beyond will only serve to further our mission. As a bonus, if our pledge goal hits double, all rewards up to, and including the $1000 level will be doubled! All Access Passes will be doubled for all other levels.
As always on Kickstarter, your pledge and subsequent payment will be processed IF and ONLY IF the funding goal is reached. If the goal is not met then pledges are canceled and not processed. Simple as that.
