Who is Auroraman?
Auroraman is Saskatchewan’s very own superhero based out of the small city of Humboldt. He is a husband, a father, a teacher and now a fledgling superhero! Having found a cosmic powered staff during a meteor shower he works to learn what powers it grants him while working to protect his hometown and beyond! You can see the most current news and sneak peeks at the official Auroraman Facebook page here!
Why in Humboldt?
The better question is why not? The city of Humboldt as well as its surrounding area have a rich history and unique stories that can be worked into some fantastic comic book adventures for Auroraman and his supporting cast. The focus of this comic is to tell fun and adventurous stories and I firmly believe that the setting will allow for that to happen, just with a little different flavour then the stories about characters in larger urban settings. There are opportunities for big city action in these stories so it won’t be completely devoid of it but it won’t always be a driving force.
What is the point of this Kickstarter?
The mission of this Kickstarter is to bring about some attention to the Auroraman character and his origin story, help raise the funds needed to cover the production of the origin story comic and set up the fan base to support future releases.
What is the plan for Auroraman?
Partnering with writer Andrew Lorenz (September17 Productions – Canadian Corps, Legacy, New Guard), Saskatchewan based artist Justin Shauf (Canadian Corps, Spacepig Hamadeus, The Purple Bean), colourist Donovan Yaciuk (Canadian Corps, Spacepig Hamadeus, The Purple Bean), and letterer Rod Salm (Canadian Corps), we are producing The Adventures of Auroraman: Origins short comic story to introduce the character for release in June at the first ever Humboldt Summer Sizzler Comic Con. After this release plans will carry along for my solo writing of Auroraman in several formats: traditional 3-4 panel newspaper style comic strips The Adventures of Auroraman with a variety of artists including Justin Shauf, Andrew Thomas (Auric of the Great White North), The Adventures of Auroraman: Made in the Watertower mini-comics with a variety of artists as well as continuing the story of Saskatchewan’s superhero in the standard sized comic
Some press for this project has already happened!
While this project was just getting off the ground it has already been flagged in certain media circles. I did an interview for the Hey Kids Comics Radio show in Peterborough, Ontario which was a great surprise since they had discovered Auroraman through the Facebook page. After the story hit 107.5 Bolt FM and the Discover Humboldt website I was contacted by the CBC in Regina for an interview on their website as well as a live on air interview for their afternoon radio program. This has also led to interest from CBC Books in Toronto, CTV News, CFCR radio and Punch TV all in Saskatoon.
Who am I?
I am a husband, father, teacher and a long time comic book fan. Growing up as a comic book fan really impacted who I am today in terms of my passion for comics, my love for the genre and especially its ability to reach such a wide range of audiences. When I find something I like deeply I want to share that with others and for anyone who knows me can attest to that...I am not pushy with it but I don’t hide it away. My teaching/dress wardrobe consists of a large number of comic book themed ties, my classroom walls are covered with comic book artwork, I work to find avenues and comic book resources that will fit into classes I teach in a relevant and meaningful manner and I will always introduce comics to people who I think will enjoy them, even if they don’t typically read comics.
