The Mike Fahie Jazz Orchestra is recording our debut CD, Urban(e)! Join us and be a part of the process of recording and releasing this album.
Who we are
Mike Fahie is a trombonist and composer in New York City. He leads his own small groups as well as the Mike Fahie Jazz Orchestra, and tours internationally with major jazz groups, notably playing lead trombone with 3-time Grammy nominee Darcy James Argue's Secret Society
The Mike Fahie Jazz Orchestra is a group of 17 top New York jazz musicians who have been playing together over a decade in and around New York. Individually, these musicians have played with the greatest musicians in the world. Collectively, we are thrilled to finally be able to present this music to the greater world!
Darcy James Argue is one of the most renowned jazz composers of this age, and he has graciously agreed to produce this album. We are thrilled to have such a brilliant and passionate musician on board!
Brian Montgomery has recorded multiple Grammy winning albums including Esperanza Spalding's Radio Music Society and Paul McCartney's Kisses on the Bottom. He is also a renowned big band engineer, having worked on albums with Darcy James Argue's Secret Society, Maria Schneider, John Hollenbeck, the Gil Evans Project and many others. We are delighted to be in such company!
Urban(e) is a new fusion of classical and modern jazz orchestra music. Each piece means something special to me, and I've rearranged them all to feature this wonderful band and the musicians in it.
Ranging from short piano preludes to entire ballets, and including the music of Bach, Stravinsky, Bartok and many others, the source material is some of the most compelling and powerful music ever written.
I'll be uploading videos about each piece as the campaign continues so you can get a look inside the process and see what the music is all about!
We will be recording, editing, mixing, mastering, pressing and releasing the album Urban(e). It goes without saying that a project like this with 17 musicians is an expensive one, and I thank all of you for considering supporting it!
There are expenses that are obvious, like paying the musicians and the engineer, and some that are less obvious, like feeding everyone during the recording, preparing all the music (just having one score printed and bound costs $20!), and promoting the album.
Any amount that you can help will be greatly appreciated!
This is the fun part! Scroll over through the various donation levels to find the exciting rewards waiting for you! You could simply pre-order the album, or you could get some fun branded items like a tote or a shirt. You could get a lesson with me or even a night out to a jazz club. Or if you love the music, you could even bring us to your house!
Keep checking in here as I will post videos about the individual pieces that I chose to arrange for this project, as well as video from the recording studio!
Risks and challenges
This album will be recorded during this kickstarter campaign. The timeline for completion of the project is not set in stone, as the editing, mixing and mastering process requires people to be available at the same time. And there may be some small delay releasing the album to time it best for concert and album sales.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
