Hey there! We reached our first goal but we're not done yet!
ALL DONATIONS we receive from this moment on will go directly towards ALL THE ARTISTS involved in this production!
This brings OUR TOTAL GOAL to $5,000!
We can do this (with your help)!
Strange Animals and Plastic Figures is an original play that takes the audience through the creative process and beyond. Our setting is the theatre itself and our task is to create an entire world from scratch as a means to explore the ways in which we create our own lives. We are people on stage doing a play and we are particularly interested in the forces that bond people together and drive people apart.
Join us for this full length scripted play that at times may feel like part devised theatre, part theatre of the absurd, part movement mediation, part comedic adventure into the unknown and even a part realism, as you watch this ensemble piece where no one leads and everyone is left behind.
Thanks to the New York Theater Festival Winterfest 2018, we will be having our World Premiere at The Hudson Guild Theater in Manhattan! Check out our page on their Festival Website
Show Dates: Feb 13th @ 6:15pm, Feb 17th @ 8:30pm, Feb 18th @ 1:00 pm

We began with a week-long WORKSHOP
“The first draft is the child’s draft, where you let it all pour out and then let it romp all over the place, knowing that no one is going to see it and that you can shape it later. You just let this childlike part of you channel whatever voices and visions come through and onto the page.” — ANNE LAMOTT IN BIRD BY BIRD
Anne Lamott believes in the power of a "shitty first draft" and so do we! Our goal for the workshop was to translate this writing technique to working with the ideas of a play for the first time. With reckless abandon and complete ownership, we explored concepts like groupmind, inventing full-scale imaginary worlds, and how the heck a 6-person coat rack functions as a character in this play!
AND NOW, with a newly refined play, we are getting back into the rehearsal room to get this bad boy on its' feet!
The following actors will be playing characters that share their own name:
John Zoitos as John
Flora McGill as Flora
Philip Portolano as Phil
Zennie Trieu as Zennie and Bryant Jager as Bryant
The following actors will join creative forces and mold their craft into a single character named Coat Rack:
and Sara Kohler
We also have a Design Team that includes:
Fiamma Piacentini, Sebastian Gutierrez, Meghan Odell, Keely Odell, Allegra Herman and Nicole Leon Elvir
Risks and challenges
We have taken one huge blindfolded leap into uncharted theatrical territory and we are determined to keep going deeper. We are inspired by theatre that challenges us, that takes a definitive stand, that goes their own way, and we are in the midst of adding to this narrative.
We have discovered some wonderful gems in our workshop process that are just dying to be set free in future rehearsals with your help. We are relying on you, our supporters, our backers, our family, friends, our mentors, our fellow artists, our future audience to provide us with the precious gift of space and time to put something beautiful into this world.
We believe in the theatre and we are determined to continue pushing the art form forward.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
