Hello you generous soul! Thanks for taking the time to check this out.
Who the heck are The Krickets?
The Krickets and are an all-girl folk band. Because of our amazing Kickstarter backers, 2 years ago we were able to go record our very first record in Muscle Shoals, AL with Ben Tanner of the Alabama Shakes. Since then, we were named the 2016 IMEA Folk Artist of the Year and received the 2016 Folk/Singer Songwriter Song of the Year Award at The Independent Music Awards.
While we love Buddy Holly's Crickets, our name comes from a cancer benefit fund we support called the Cricket Fund Beyond Diagnosis. We pledged a dollar of every album sold to this fund to help the uninsured receive the care they need and we are excited to pledge that again! Band members: Melissa Bowman, Emily Stuckey Sellers, Lauren Spring and Katrina Kolb.
What do you want?
We want to make our next album! We have been writing ever since we released our first album and can't wait to share our new songs with you!
Where are you planning to do this?
We don't know for sure yet, but we are leaning toward Nashville.
What makes you girls think you girls deserve a second album?
We already feel like we've won the lottery with this musical experience we've been given. We are an unconventional band in lots of ways. We are four women living in different cities, with jobs, lives, school, husbands, children and other musical projects. Family comes first with us, but that doesn't mean making music is any less precious to us than to a road-warrior band. We have been through hell and back learning how to be a band and are stronger for it. We gig less, but we've learned to make those gigs count. We've learned to practice regularly remotely via some great software so we don't waste any time. We know it might be different - but it's our way!
And now we are so excited to share the new material with you guys, that it just feels like it's time.
Why do we need the Kickstarter to make the album?
Going into debt as a new band to make an album = dead band. We want to live.
Why should you help help these crazy girls?
1) Because you love our sound, one of our songs, love us personally or just love music period and need some good karma today. Just think it's hot? Great. We'll take it.
2) Because you recognize that seeing four women working together in the name of music for longer than five minutes is like a unicorn sighting and should be supported at all costs.
Got it, wrap it up
The songs are written. We're proud of them. Please help us get our rear ends into the studio so we can take the next step as a band. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support!!!!
Risks and challenges
Band newness, estrogen and egos are always factors, though most of the time, we can see that the music overrides all those things. If someone is having trouble seeing reason, we find shock treatments helpful. Comforting thought #1: Between all the members, there is at least 30 years of playing/performing experience.
Being very expensive is another challenge. Handling this campaign $ wisely is crucial. Comforting thought #2: there's at least one finance degree in the bunch and several members bring some legitimate business experience to the table. And we've done this before! Lots of things are already in place this time around which will make this project much more efficient. Every penny goes toward the album and a cost breakdown looks like this:
Roadtripping to the studio: $200
Lodging - 10 days 4 people: $1000
Hospitality for Studio Musicians and Engineers (food, coffee, etc): $200
Studio Rental Fees: $1500
Recording Engineer Fees: $1000
Studio Musician Fees: $4000
Mixdown Engineer Fees: $3000
Mastering Engineer Fees: $900
First Print of 1000 CD’s: $1200
Publicity Mailings: $600
Radio Promotion mailings: $500
Industry Mailings: $200
A realistic cost/song with the stellar production quality we're after is easily $800. Then the other items push the cost of our little 10-12 song album right up to the $18k goal. We will manipulate the # of songs on the album to keep reasonable control over our costs. There's zero chance that we estimated everything perfectly. We can promise any funds past our 18k goal will go toward perfecting the production of this album and album promotion. Once the album is released, $1 of every sale of this album will go toward the Cricket Fund Beyond Diagnosis that provides mammograms to the uninsured. Please see our bio for more info on that cause and why it's our namesake.
If more funds are needed at the end of the project for any reason, we will gig our rears off until we have what we need to finish it.
We know with your help WE CAN DO THIS!!! Thank you, thank you thank you to all of you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
