And with that,
We are pleased to announce new stretch goals:

-if we reach $7,500 funding, every backer from $1 up gets a digital copy of our favorite yodeling video shot at the World Beard and Moustache Championships!
The Story: What is "Beardo the Movie"?
"Beardo the Movie" is a documentary on the World Beard and Moustache Championships (WBMC) and men who enter the WBMC. This biennial competition judges men in eighteen different moustache, partial beard, and full beard categories for the title of "Best Facial Hair in the World." Our 40-minute documentary on the 2009 WBMC features a beardly cast including Jack Passion, the Australian band The Beards, captain of the USA Beard team Phil Olsen, and many more bearded and moustached competitors!
What makes this film beard-tastic?
This was the first ever documentary on the World Beard and Moustache Championships. If that's not beard-tastic, we're not sure what is. The "Beardo the Movie" teaser trailer has racked up over 25,000 views on YouTube, and "Beardo the Movie" has its Chicago, IL, premier screening April 27th at the C2E2 the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (we'll see you there Mick Foley!)
The filmmakers: Who are we?
"Beardo the Movie" was produced by DIGICO Shoot | Post | Design and Jeff Tocci. DIGICO is a creative production firm that works with clients and partners in video, film and motion design. Our clients include Travel Channel, the Discovery Channel, and Comcast to name a few. "Beardo the Movie" was our first self-funded documentary film, and with your help we can make it one big bearded success together.
Jeff Tocci is a director and producer based out of Massachusetts. Jeff directed and produced "Beardo the Movie," his first documentary.
The Goal: What are we going to do with your support?
Despite being completed for years, "Beardo the Movie" has never been commercially available. Since the movie was self-financed, including fees for festival and travel to festivals, we eventually stopped pursuing festivals for release. "Beardo the Movie" had a lot of positive feedback from TV networks, but most were interested (and have since made) a season of TV episodes.
We have been looking for a way to bring "Beardo the Movie" to the public for years. Once we explored Kickstarter, we saw an opportunity to get funding for submitting "Beardo the Movie" to a distributer.
Platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and Hulu require an extensive application process, where applicants usually have to hire a third party aggregator that has a library of content to offer. That's where you come in! With your support, we'll submit "Beardo the Movie" to an iTunes-approved distributer who will in turn submit "Beardo the Movie" to iTunes, Amazon, Hulu and more! We've set a lower dollar amount goal that would allow submission to a few key platforms including iTunes and Amazon, though if we get more than the goal we'll have a higher budget to submit to more platforms and languages.
In addition to using Kickstarter for a budget for distribution, we thought a Kickstarter campaign would be a fun way to work and engage with the bearded and documentary communities we've gotten to know over the years, and have some special editions!
We've spent a lot of time (time to grow many full beards) to come up with a straight-forward and realistic goal for this project. Our goal of $2000 will be used for:
- the fees to submit to a third party distributer that's a recommended vendor for platforms like iTunes, Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix. Currently iTunes-approved Juice is the frontrunner. We're hoping good word-of-mouth and press from the Kickstarter shows a distributor that people want to see "Beardo the Movie!"
- music licensing fees.
- the processing fees charged by Kickstarter and Amazon to run the campaign.
- distribution channel for physical rewards like the special edition DVDs, t-shirts, prints, books, and the shipping costs.
Once you become a backer you are officially a part of the "Beardo the Movie" team. We're counting on you to spread the word to make sure we reach our goal together and get "Beardo the Movie" on Netflix, Hulu, iTunes, and Amazon, and distribution for physical DVDs in the future.
If you aren't in the position to give financial support, we hope that you'll share this campaign with your bearded and non-bearded friends, family, acquaintances...anyone interested in watching the documentary. You can also help support "Beardo the Movie" by "following" or "liking" "Beardo the Movie" on Facebook, following us on Twitter, or just by posting the link to this Kickstarter in your social media feeds.
The Rewards: What's in it for you?
We've got a lot of rewards for you, including a digital download of the 40-minute film festival cut of "Beardo the Movie" and the full audio of The Beards concert at the WBMC; a special edition DVD with the film festival cut, the full Beards concert audio, photos, trailers, and more ; a "Beardo the Movie" print; a "Beardo the Movie" t-shirt and more!
Check out the rewards below:
Kickstarter: How does it work?
Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. This means that if the project meets its goal, you will receive your rewards and your credit cards will be charged when time expires. If the project does not meet its goal in the specified time, "Beardo the Movie" will not receive any funding and rewards will not be fulfilled. This is why your support is extremely important! We want to bring "Beardo the Movie" to every bearded and non-bearded person around the globe!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
There are no risks to complete "Beardo the Movie", the movie is done! If the Kickstarter is successful you'll get your copy of "Beardo the Movie" and other rewards regardless if "Beardo the Movie" gets additional distribution to other platforms.
Although we've priced the DVDs, t-shirts, and prints, we have not ordered DVDs, t-shirts, prints, or the Facial Hair Handbook yet as we don't know the final quantities of each. Once the Kickstarter ends we'll get firm estimates on delivery dates from the vendors we're using to produce the DVDs, shirts, and prints, as well as getting signed Facial Hair Handbooks from Jack Passion. We'll update you as we get a timeline in place to start shipping.
If people sign on to the "producer" reward we'll at least re-edit the credits to include names, we currently have a production schedule planned to re-edit and prepare the digital download and DVD versions of the movie if the Kickstarter is successful.
