Hi! I'm Megan James, a comic artist currently living in Richmond, VA. For the past year and a half or I've been writing and illustrating my very first long-form comic series, Innsmouth, which is published through Sink/Swim Press. I've released 2 issues so far, with #3 on it's way in May.
Innsmouth is the story of Randolph Higgle, a lowly door-to-door doomsday cultist of the Esoteric Order of Innsmouth, who decides that maybe the world shouldn’t end just yet. It’s a horror-comedy Lovecraft mashup updated for the 21st century and a whole lot of fun.
Growing up, I read a lot of Lovecraft. I loved the silly conceits in the stories, not as horror, but as comedy. However, as I grew older, I started to see the problematic underbelly of the work showing through, which was troubling. To reconcile this, I did what so many writers and artists have done through the years; I created my own take on the mythos.
While creating Innsmouth, I've amassed a large library of visual development, from sketches to character sheets to pictures of dead fish random people have sent me.
I'd love to be able to share a look behind the scenes and offer The Art of Innsmouth to fans and friends at the upcoming VCUarts Communication Arts Senior Expo. To do this, I’ll need some funds to self-publish the book.
The Art of Innsmouth will be 36 full color annotated pages, 6.25x10.25 inches (comic book size) and will include work created throughout the production of Innsmouth #1-3, from initial ideation to publication.
Physical copies will be available for purchase at the CAS Expo. $25 tier and above backers will receive copies as well, either mailed out to them or available for pickup at the Expo.
Funds raised will go towards printing and shipping costs of the book, as well as printing and shipping costs of the various rewards in the reward tiers. Check them out - there's some pretty great swag to be had.
UPDATE 4/1/17 - WE'RE FUNDED!
In about 48 hours-ish we managed to raise the entire $750 to print the book! Wow! Thank you to all who donated - it really means a lot!
Rest assured, however, the remaining 20 days of the campaign will not go to waste. Here are some ambitious stretch goals we can try to reach:
Your support on this project would be greatly appreciated. I, on behalf of the entire Esoteric Order of Innsmouth, thank you for your time!
Risks and challenges
The Art of Innsmouth will be released alongside Innsmouth #3 at the Communication Arts Senior Expo on May 5th, so I'm working on a fairly tight deadline. However, I'm confident that I will be able to finish the book on time!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
