STRETCH GOAL- We are getting so close to our first goal of $15,000, we want to celebrate already! So we are letting you know that for each family that buys 2 tickets to the Tractor celebrations parties ( at the $25, $35, & $50 levels) you can bring the kids in your immediate family for free! These will be awesome celebration days in October, with pumpkins to pick, tractor drawn wagon rides, farm fresh food, animals to see. Come and celebrate with us! This also applies to those who have already bought tickets.
With your help we can raise the money to buy the tractor that meets the needs of the farm. So the further we go over the $15,000 goal, the newer the tractor will be, with less hours already on it! Help us push past the $15,000 goal by pledging and sharing our project with others!
The Book Family Farm is growing Grass-fed Beef, and Pastured Pork, Poultry, and Eggs for our local community. We are also providing a an opportunity for people to see how their food is grown and and allowing them to get to know their farmer by providing Fun, Educational, Farm Tours for both children and adults. We love to share our farm!
Our Goal is to grow healthy grass in order to grow healthy animals. We do this by having the cows, chickens and pigs, in turn, rotate though our pastures. This rotation system gives the animals a new "salad bar" of fresh green grass each day. It also helps distribute their manure through our fields which is natural fertilizer. We do not need to rely on commercial fertilizers or sprays.
We are going back in time to how small farms used to function before industrialization and feedlots. It is hard work but in the end the product is worth it. The commercial "Back to the Start" by the restaurant Chipotle says it all. If you haven't seen it, click here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMfSGt6rHos
Our meat is sold on the farm only. That way when you come, you can meet the farmer, see first hand how the animals are being raised and if you have kids along, you can show them where their food comes from!
We Need Help and invite you to Partner with us! - In order to continue farming in this manner we need to replace our worn out tractor. The tractor is used to move large irrigation pipe to water our fields. We move mobile chicken houses each day. It is also used to clean up the farm, turn & spread compost, clean ditches, haul wood, move and plant pumpkins, plant pasture, cut, bale, feed and haul hay, etc. etc.! In short it is the Farmer Book's right hand.
How can you help? Share, Share Share!1. Share the link for the project on your Facebook timeline.
2. Share the link by email or word of mouth
3. Make a pledge, receive a reward!
Each of our rewards and incentives are structured to help you connect with the farm. No pledge is too small! We are sincerely thankful to everyone who funds our project in any way! Everyone who pledges becomes a part of our farm community via our newsletter. We are excited to offer tours of the farm, tractor celebration tickets, dinners, grass fed meats, etc. Find one that fits your family.
Kickstarter guidelines say that you can make only one pledge so we have provided some add-ons that might fit the size of your family. Please make a note of any add-ons when you make your pledge.
*No money changes hands unless all the money for the project is funded in the 30-day period. It is all or nothing!
So how will we spend the money if funded?
$15,000 will be a down payment for the tractor we need. We found one that meets our needs. The total cost is $32,000 used. If we raise more than $15,000 the money will go toward total price of the tractor. If we raise more than $32,000 it will go toward our Kickstarter expenses (cost of incentives plus 5% to Kickstarter and 3-5% to Amazon payments).

Where do we go from here? Our Vision for the future…
The loader tractor is necessary to keep us farming but we don’t want to stop there. Farm education is our passion and our eventual dream is to build a multi-use education barn with a kitchen! There is so much more we hope and plan to do to expand our reach to provide more food for our community and to educate people on our farm. We want to thank you for partnering with us and we hope to see you at the farm!
Risks and challenges
Our challenge is to keep farming and to do the jobs that need to be done right now without the loader tractor. We will have to rent a tractor for jobs that cannot be put off. Renting is expensive! (Since posting this on May 20th, 2013 2 people have stepped forward and offered to lend us their tractor this month! We are so grateful! We reached out via Kickstarter and now the community is reaching back. Thank you community and thank you Kickstarter!)
If we are funded, then our challenge will be to find the right tractor for the amount that we are funded in a timely manner. We have found a tractor for the right price that meets our needs, but don't know if it will still be available when we have the money!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
