Time Glitch Jammers
What does it take to make the best game ever, in the future, to save the world, with a dinosaur?
Rob the human and Francis the dinosaur make video games. Their dull life in a home office is suddenly changed when The Baron of Space and Time delivers a cryptic message to them. "Travel to the future and make the best game ever or the world is doomed!"
Rob and Francis use their new Time Glitcher to clip between time streams. This method of time travel is erratic and uncontrollable but they arrive in the future nonetheless. They find a barren wasteland where almost all life has been destroyed or mutated by nanobots. Rob sets to work designing the best game ever while Francis is tasked with stopping any distractions so Rob can work.
You can download a play a pre alpha demo of Time Glitch Jammers RIGHT NOW!
All backers from the $10 dollar level upward will receive a key for the Extended Length Demo which includes more than double the content of the standard demo!
Play as Francis the dinosaur. Eat anything that moves to protect Rob while he works. Absorb nanobots by eating enemies and reprogram them to form powerful robotic structures. Design a defensive strategy and then jump into action fighting off increasingly strange and powerful beasts. Earn new nanobot programs and unlock new units. You can even find nanobot upgrades for your dinosaur body!
The future is a messed up place! Rob's homemade Time Glitcher has a mind of its own. Piece together the story of what happened to the world we know and love as you jump forward, backward, and side to side through different time streams. There are secrets to discover around every corner, including two hitchhiking squirrels that accidentally get sucked into the time glitch with Rob and Francis.
Time Glitch Jammers follows an intricate and twisting story. The adventure Rob and Francis start on becomes far more dangerous than they ever expected. Because the Time Glitcher jumps forward, backward, and between different time streams, many versions of our heroes have begun to cross paths. The task of building the best game ever proves to be impossible for a countless number of Robs to complete. What at first seems to be a deserted future wasteland reveals itself to be highly dangerous and unforgiving landscape of failed attempts.
The player of the game follows one version of Rob and Francis in a linear story as they try to create the best game ever. The story of how the world came to be destroyed, how nanobots were invented, and why Francis is so valuable plays out in a non-linear way. This story is yours to discover by paying attention to the rich detail in the world and the subtle clues left behind by a near infinite number of time streams interconnecting.
For unknown reasons when the nanobots destroyed life on earth they did not kill the chickens. They did however mutate the chicken DNA. As these new mutant species appeared they developed new survival skills. Where there is prey there are predators.
It appears that some versions of Rob have given up on the quest to make the best game ever and have instead taken to designing robots! It isn't immediately clear what the motivation behind this is but there must be some reason for it.
Nanobots are everywhere! These microscopic robots permeate all living tissue in the future. They can even alter the molecular structure of DNA or rearrange the synapses in a living nervous system! By eating creatures filled with nanobots Francis can reprogram the robots to form virtually anything and then lay them out inside an egg. Units can be used to alter the path enemies take, defend against attacks, and even eliminate enemies. As you play you will find exotic combinations of your nanobot units to help you form your unique strategy for each level. Francis can also find special Nanobot infusion tanks that allow him to upgrade his own body with nanotech enhancements.

$150 CUSTOM IN GAME OBJECT
The future wasteland is a messy place. All sorts of objects from the past civilization lay around the world of TGJ. You send me a picture or description of one of you favorite objects in real life and I put it in the game. You will also receive the shirt AND the art print, as well as all previous rewards.
$500 CUSTOM EASTER EGG
I LOVE hiding secrets in my games. Become a backer at this tier to design your own custom 'Easter Egg' within the game. This can include a hidden room, bit of dialogue, or small scene (provided it can fit within the story of the game.) I will work with you to figure out what you would like and how we can fit it in. Then it will be up to you to let the secret out or keep it to yourself.
$1500 YOUR OWN CUSTOM MINI GAME!
One of the coolest parts of TGJ are hidden mini games. Let me explain how it works. Rob and Francis's goal is to make the best game ever. At the end of each level Rob will have completed a game. They tend to fall pretty short of what any sane person would consider 'the best ever.' During the course of playing TGJ you can find versions of these games and play them for yourself!
Become a backer at this ultimate level and you work with me to come up with your own custom game! These games are small and short so no 70 hour JRPGs, but, they are totally original content and don't have to relate to the guy and dinosaur. This is your chance to have someone build the game you've always wanted!
I distinctly remember playing a Pitfall 2 arcade machine in a Bob's Big Boy Restaurant when I was 5 years old. I was so blown away by it, I decided to grow and sell pumpkins to save up enough money to buy an NES. From that point on I was completely hooked on video games. I fondly remember the lore that was so thick in those days before the internet. Could you really kill the dog in duck hunt if you got past level 50? That thrill of discovery is probably the strongest force in my design philosophy. I think that there are lots of exciting possibilities for emergent story telling in games these days but I still love a good written story too.
Because of these driving forces you can expect lots and lots of Easter Eggs and subtle plot points in my games. When I find a 'glitch' I am just as likely to turn it into a secret that adds to the game lore as I am to fix the code. I think a game universe feels much more alive when you can discover it rather than have it presented to you directly.
Hi, I'm Rob. Dinopunch is the name of my independent game company. I have been making games since 2006. I started out my game developing career making flash adver-games for companies as well as my own projects. Everything I have created up to this point has either been free to play online or a contract for another company. Time Glitch Jammers is my first foray into the true commercial games space and I couldn't be more excited about it. I also owned a successful video production business for 12 years but have chosen to retire that business and make video games full time.

Hi, I'm Francis. Although some people have described me as 'not real' I can assure you that I am vital part of the team at Dinopunch. I handle lots of different things around here including programming, chasing feral cats, artwork, and knocking over lamps with my tail.
WHY KICKSTARTER / MONEY MATTERS:
I have been developing Time Glitch Jammers for the past year. The project was started as a 'high score' sort of game and slowly morphed into its current scope. As the scope of the game grew I realized that I was actually making a game that represented what it was like to create a game. It is almost a strange video game autobiography (minus the time travel, mutant chickens, and robots.) It is hugely important to me that the creative vision of this game remain pure and uncompromised. That is why I have been funding the development of this game with my savings. I am running short on savings. I am seeking $15,000 to finish Time Glitch Jammers, here is the breakdown of how the money will be spent.
Because I am the lone developer making this game and handling everything myself I am able to work for cost of living expenses. This budget represents the absolute bare minimum I need to keep the furnace running and food on my kids' plates. This game and my family are my only two concerns right now.
Risks and challenges
Designing and building a video game from scratch is a very nebulous process. Even the most skilled game designers have to rely on trial and error for much of a project. When I first had the idea to seek funding through a Kickstarter Campaign I knew that I wouldn't launch the campaign until enough of the design was finished that I could accurately tell how much time and money the project would take to finish. That said, problems can still arise.
Right now the game is in need of refactoring. This is not a sexy part of the job. Basically I need to re-write a whole bunch of the systems within the game. This is necessary because as you design you add and subtract a lot of things until you find out what is fun. Over time things are added in inefficient ways and things that are no longer in the game confuse the code. It is a natural part of the game making process.
Once refactoring is complete it will be a march to alpha status. This means making the game complete from beginning to end. Much of the artwork is completed to an acceptable level for alpha but there is still design and coding work to be done. I would like to take another 'pass' or two on the art before things are finished up but getting the game together from beginning to end needs to be done first.
The main challenge I have is balancing time between my family and working on this game. If funding is successful I will be able to continue working on this game full time. The challenge is that I take care of my two young children while my wife is at work during the day. I work during naps and after my wife comes home. I can usually find 40 hours a week to put in but when the kids are sick or not sleeping my ability to work decreases. I have been working in this way for 3 years now and have my own systems in place that work (I might do a blog post or update about it for all those working parents out there). The general idea is to accept the fact that on any given day I might not get to work on the game as much as i would like and find a way to make up for it in the future. Its a marathon not a sprint!
I have been self employed my entire adult life. Finishing projects and making good on my promises is central to who I am. It is what allowed me to run a successful business for 12 years in the video production industry. The only chance of this game not being completed if it is funded is some sort of life changing injury or death, that is my promise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
