We are artists who live and work in Los Angeles, and we are working to publish a limited edition art book called Articulate. For this edition, all the work explores the topic of love.
Articulate is an exhibition-in-print that gives you the opportunity to bring home a thoughtfully curated selection of art and allows artists to get their work out to viewers without relying on galleries.
This version of Articulate is more ambitious than our previous book. We are working closely with a selection of artists in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and the Bay area to translate their ideas to book form. We are also working with a small number of artists who are producing original works for each individual folio.
All the work in this edition somehow addresses the theme of love, though the interpretation of that subject varies widely--there is a marriage contract, a parent/child collaboration, artists communing with their pets, a look at how subtle emotions get lost in translation and much more. As with our last book, the work ranges in form from paintings and drawings to video stills, photo documentation, and poetry.
We have been humbled by the vulnerability and commitment the artists have shown in their proposals and in producing the works that are under way. To make this edition of Articulate particularly special, we will be working with Paper Chase Press, a small printing press in Los Angeles that specializes in design and art books. We are looking forward to working with them to weave all the pieces together. And this is where you come in.
We need to raise the money to publish the book and pay for all the supplies that go into making each copy unique. Ultimately, we hope to sell a small number of the books at local specialty stores in Los Angeles and New York, but for now the only way to get one is to donate to this project.
For $40 you can receive the beautifully printed book containing work from all the participating artists.
At $100 we are offering the full limited edition exhibition-in-print which will be simultaneously a book, a sculpture, and a personal art-exhibition.
Thank you for supporting artists and for helping to bring this project to life. We are excited to share the final product with you.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is making enough money to fund our ambitious goals. Each book will be a work of art no matter what because of the talented people we are working with. However, we are hoping to push this project to a whole new level with original artwork, custom folios and creative printing options.
At $1500 we will be able to fund a beautiful art book, but every dollar more gives us greater creative freedom.
Of course, with any creative project (and especially one that involves collaborating with multiple artists) there are elements of the unknown, but we feel confident that our experience from our previous books will help us address whatever problems may arise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
