About this project
LAST DAY!! LET"S DO IT!!!
** CHECK OUT THE UPDATED REWARDS** **YEASAYER JUST CONFIRMED TO COME JOIN US ON THE TRIP!**
In Uganda, rebel leader Joseph Kony is currently abducting children and forcing them to fight in a war that has lasted over 23 years. When, in 2003, three young guys from southern California traveled to Uganda and stumbled across this situation, they knew they had to share it with the world. The result was the documentary film Invisible Children and, after an unexpectedly overwhelming response to the film, the non-profit organization of the same name.
Invisible Children has always been an organization that prides itself on creativity – and we have seen the power that film and music can have on educating and motivating individuals. Invisible Children, in partnership with La Blogotheque, has set out to make a documentary film combining the power of the Invisible Children's story with the influence of three of our culture’s most innovative musical groups.
In 2010, the members of Polyphonic Spree, Yeasayer and one other band (TBD), will join the Invisible Children crew and La Blogotheque on a journey to Gulu, Uganda. While there, the bands will learn about the many affects the 24-year-long war has had on the area and its inhabitants, and they will learn about what’s being done to stop it. During their stay, each of the bands will play a show – in La Blogotheque’s Take Away Show fashion – interacting with the locals and using the surroundings and the scenery to enhance the experience for all. The result will be a documentary film – a series of three Take Away Shows interspersed with band member interviews and local events. The film will be sold by Invisible Children in an effort to raise funds to further promote awareness of the 23-year-long war and to support the Invisible Children programs.
Invisible Children and La Blogotheque want YOU to be involved. Your support will not only help get production for this project under way, but it will ultimately help us in proving to the world that ‘musical notes can be more powerful than bullets, and songs more powerful than bombs’.
**NOTE: Due to the high cost of international travel, this project will require funding beyond what’s raised here on Kickstarter.com. If that additional funding is not received by the end of this campaign, your pledge will be saved and you’ll be contacted when additional funding does come through to approve your initial pledge. Thanks so much for believing that music can change the world. This project cannot happen without YOU!! Please tell your friends.
***Please check back. We'll keep this page updated as we confirm the other bands.
